Fixed blades for EDC! Limited!

Oh yeah--I like this tiny JK "pocket cleaver" too. It is TINY, but pretty nice. I don't know if he still makes them; I got mine for $50 second hand. This one is the first one he made, with the "1" on the blade.

Tom Krein is the master of small fixed blades. The Cayenne, Wicker, Kard, Pocket Hunter, Pocket Bowie, Cicada, Dogfish, TK-1, immediately come to mind.

Big Chris - S90V

Good Day Knife Lovers,

I have recently gotten obsessed with finding great edc fixed blades. I have found a few that might make the cut but i need to hear more from you guys about this. I am posting this thread is because i have noticed so much love for ESEE, Becker and Bark River in this category. I understand there are good reasons for this. Very popular blades such as those may steal well deserved attention from other awesome blades out there. This is the time for all the underdogs to come out! I'm hoping a lot of you guys are interested in this topic as much as i am.

This is why i have come up with rules for this thread:

Post your recommendation for an EDC fixed blade. Limitations are listed below

a.) ABSOLUTELY NO TALK ABOUT ESEE, BECKER, BARK RIVER KNIVES
b.) MAX OAL 6.5"
c.) Carry options would be greatly appreciated
d.) Customs with great prices are greatly appreciated
e.) In case there are questions like "What will the knife be used for?" I ask for standard capabilities of every knife, as well as batoning.
f.) Photos are always LOVED.

Just a guess, but I don't think you could do much batoning with a knife of 6.5 inches overall length. I was going to recommend quite a few, but at 6.5" OAL, I really got nothing. Maybe a nice neck knife? I don't really carry much below a 3.5" blade. That would mean 3" handle - too small for me. Sorry I couldn't be of help.

The trend for OAL of 6.5" is a blade from 2.5-3". That lets you baton through thinner branches of wood with diameter close but shorter than your blade length. I would say that isnt bad for fire making. Thin blades, i've realized can still do a LOT more than we all initially think. Check out this video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmGLfn2crJg

Let me know what you think. Maybe after that, you'll want to send in your recommendations!

My turn to show what i have recently been carrying.
My MSK 2.5 with a leather sheath that i made for it with Fine grain leather pads
Rides in my pocket day-to-day and is there when i need it. Not big enough for people to freak out when i pull it out for something.

6.125" OAL , 1095 , micarta handles. I've been enjoying this knife a lot. This "finger" design reminds me of the Wilder Forge Finger drop point necker all the time. I want one so BAD. Anyone know how to contact JWilder to order one?

It enjoyed stabbing my finger yesterday too. I have a Krein Pocket Bowie to try out very soon.

I have been bouncing the idea of carrying a fixed blade around in my head, and yes, there is plenty of room haha;), for the past few months. I finally decided to buy one and try it out. Because I'm not sure if I will like carrying a fb, I am not going to spend a lot of money to begin with, if I find this is the way I want to go, then I may be willing to spend more to upgrade my knife. Today I placed an order and included a Boker Plus Tom Krein PSK in that order. Should be here on Thursday. The PSK comes with a kydex sheath and the clip for a belt. I am planning to try it out on my left side at 10:00,where it will ride just above my fannypack. I will give it a couple of weeks to see how I feel about it, but guess I will know whether it will be carried regularly within a few days. I can pretty much tell about a knife in a very short while.

Here are 3 pics from the web. Boker Plus PSK- $64.95

Those prymates are cool, I just can't understand why the heck they're so damn expensive.

My suggestions:
Tops Ferret
Dan Koster EDC
BHK T-1

Re Wilder Forge - Jason (username Jawilder) is a member here. From memory his necker thread is on the last page of the knfe makers fixed blades for sale area. My dp finger necker is awesome and I would recommend Jason's work any day.

Dude i hear you. The price is not right for me. Ferret is pretty cool. Isn't BHK out of production? I mean they split up or something.

Found it. Good call. Thanks!

I think because they are the Boker brand made in Germany. If made under the Boker Plus banner they would probably be around a c-note.

I am going to offer up my Buck 692 carried handle down on my belt in a self made Kydex sheath. The butt of the handle hangs just below the average shirt. It is easy to pull for self defense purposes.

I like my BlackJack 155 neck knife, but not on my neck. I had some Tero Tuf laying around, so I made some scales for it. It's about 6 3/8" OAL and the convex ground blade is right around 2 7/8". The stock is .150 thick and is 154cm. It carries well vertically at 11:00. You can pick them up for some where in the mid $50 range. If you want to buy micarta scales, they run between $30-$36. The so called powder coat on them sucks, so I stripped it of with acetone. It's a good little edc user for a reasonable price.

Agree. That's a good knife. I would want the handles so total would be almost 100$. That's not bad but i just found ATS Knifeworks by a guy named Nick who has similar custom offerings that are made of AEB-L Stainless steel for 110$. He also customs the kydex for them. That's a hard choice to make if i had to make one. He goes by chavez556 here.
