Yes! That was it! For some reason I thought Bill made a design from back in the day that resembled the PWB, but it was this design I’m thinking of.

Not sure when the Prather first appeared. I’m pretty sure that one I made predates at least the TOPS version. The one in the pic was made directly from a customer’s design. It was much larger than the TOPS Prather Bowie. Very squared off too. Either way the shape/design is pretty basic for an unguarded Bowie Knife. Not much “ownership” to contest![]()

I found an image of the Siegle knife showing its measurements.
Comparison:
................................Siegle.............Tops Prather
OAL.......................... 13.5" ............12.6"
Blade..........................9" .................7.8"
Thickness...................1/4" ..............1/4"
Handle.......................4.5" ...............5.8"
Steel..........................5160................1095
n2s
The plot thickens….AntDog i knew I saw something somewhere lol. I thought I was losing it.
It’s in the top 5 of Tops knives. The plot thickens….
I know the origin of the design is contentious, but the Tops version is one hell of a knife.

I might strip it without etching that part. Maybe just etch the “War Bowie”, the serial, and the TOPS made in USA.Absolutely, one of the coolest bowie knife designs I've seen.....
I'll grind off the Prather name, for FREE.... Just pay shipping.
If you are interested.....![]()
Yep J.J. You know me well. I have to give it a try. I can’t deal with the “what ifs”, especially when it comes to knives.
Imacasas are really solid too, but that's a friggin bad assed blade there.AAdmittedly, I know Jack Schitt about "machetes".
Hell, every time I think about buying one, I hear the "John Wick" of machetes and tree cutting (*Wild Willie ) whispering, "Tramontina", in my ear.
Despite that (*and I can't really say why), I've BADLY wanted one of these since the first time I saw 'em...and I finally have one...
