Fixed blades

First time taking Grim (19 weeks old now) for a walk in the woods and making some coffee outdoors with the Kelly kettle Trekker.
MKM Normar helped starting the fire with some curls and feathersticks.

Very handsome dog and love the name.

Like everything about this photo.
Looks like a new knife. No use marks.
Please tell me about this one.
Thanks

So basically, that is the 5" Steel Eagle version of its big brother, the 107E. The "105" denotes that it's the 5" version, and the "E" denotes that it has what TOPS calls a "hunters point" (*in lieu of a tanto point) and no sawback.

TOPS offered a "105HP" version for many years. And, while it shared the "Steel Eagle" nomenclature, it wasn't really up to the standards of the 107s. So, a few years back, I reckon that Leo opted to revisit the 105, and TOPS released the updated models in 2022 (*I believe). The new version(s) kinda' gave them the opportunity to horn-in, and actually be competitive, in the market segment that was dominated by the BK-2 and ESEE-5.

Thanks you. How does it compare with some of your other blades in that length?

I've had a 105C and 105E since their initial release. Hell, one of 'em is #50 in production. However, as you referenced in your earlier post, neither has seen a lot of hard use. I've mostly just had them on my belt while running-around on the tractor or walking some fence lines.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I have been using my 107s for years and have (*quite literally) hundreds of hours under the sky between the ones that I own. Since the 105s are basically just shorter versions of their 107 brothers, I can't imagine these behaving or performing much differently. Because of the shorter size, batoning and chopping will probably be a bit different, obviously. However, other than de-limbing, I rarely chop with my 107s.

I foresee the 105s being stellar performers and capable of giving BK&T and ESEE/Rowen a run for their money. Your mileage may vary.
