Fixed blades

Bro.. fall down the rabbit hole of sharpening. Get a kme if you want a guided system or dmt stones if you can freehand well. I use both, I also have an edge pro apex 4 but don't use it. For the blades that need a lot of steel removed I'll use the kme. I used to sharpen for mirror edges hence the name, but I use my knives way to much for that.

I have a few "diamond" in-home sharpening methods available to me.

...and still can't achieve the results of Chris and his "Tormek" wheel.

Maybe I need to look at some of the KME stuff.

KME sharpening systems are excellent tools. I know you have a lot of blades with thick stock and edges longer that 4 inches though ( same with me ). The only issue I had with the KME was limitation on stock thickness of the knives I need sharpened - 5/32 is ok, 3/16 is pushing it, .20 ish is possibly possible and beyond that - NOPE. shinyedges shinyedges mentioned using diamond bench stones in conjunction with the KME - YEP 👍. I’ll do the heavy lifting of a re profile with 50 to 100 - 225 grit KME stones and move onto freehand bench stones thereafter. In my experience you usually only need to really sharpen a knife once , then it’s just maintenance thereafter ( unless you do dumb shit like me and chip something ).

KME is great , check out the worksharp precision system too ( the metal one ).

I like the kme a lot, I've gone through a bunch of sharpening methods/systems. I got rid of most of them except the kme, sharpmaker, edge pro and the dmt stones/water stones.

I will say it is time consuming to make perfect edges. I've abandoned perfect mirror like edges for the most part because when it gets dull I resharpen on the dmt and then the edge gets scratched up anyway. So long as it can easily shave hair I'm good with it.

Solid info here. I've done .2 on the kme without any issue but haven't tried thicker. I wonder if they revised it at some point, I'll try a thicker blade tomorrow and see.

With that, I'm a bit scared of "motorized" sharpeners.

Mighty fine to see a couple of MMHW'S👍

Older half of my growing WTG collection. I can't really think of a better value that also has so many cool designs and workmanship.

I allways thought that unboxing and "accessories" were kind of dumb and pointless. But now I think that was just because I was so use to TOPS putting zero effort into anything except to the knife itself. Like really a plastic bag and a rapes whistle? I guess somebody buying a reverse recurve dagger with a saw spine, karambit ring, bow drill divot, and day glow yellow liners probably does actually need a rape whistle.

I love my TOPS, but man to they make a ton of dumb s#it. A micro ElChete? Stupid...

I have a OP7 and a Cuma Kage … the whistle is a weird one. Also coming with useable Kydex is huge if you are used to Busse where you get a piece of cardboard. Kydex costs another $60-$200. The Operator 7 would be better if it was not a recurve.

I almost traded for a WTG a few times. I will try one someday. I resisted trying a BRK forever and have a few now. Still resisting trying a Randall... one of those brands that sounds more like a religion, hahah. No Winklers either :(
