BIG shout-out to Kershaw!

A short (*long) story...

I am not much of a "chopping" guy. I own some large knives that are seen as "choppers"...my WTG Kodiaks and 240 Skrama immediately come to mind...but have probably used them 20:1 for batoning over chopping.

This past week, I volunteered to assist the HOA for my Mom's ol' place with hauling some limbs of a large, neglected Live Oak that had been "manicured". On our way out, we were asked to collect a fallen limb, of another Live Oak, that had fallen during one of our recent windstorms. It was in the parking lot of the pool/tennis courts, and I was familiar with it as I had moved it while walking my puppy dog. South Texas has had two summers of drought, and that fallen limb was consistent with that...almost petrified and very heavy. I had a gentleman assisting me and was hoping that we could lift the entire limb unto the gooseneck, as neither of us had a chainsaw with us. When we got there, we realized that it was just too big and would need to be reduced.

A few months back, I had compiled a little collection of "expendable" edged tools to store (*and leave) behind the seat of my flatbed....a folder, medium knife, large knife, and 'hawk. I scored all 'em over a period of months, and all while they were "On Sale". I think the whole hodgepodge set me back about $150. One of those tools was a Kershaw Camp 10.

I tried both the 'hawk and the Camp 10, which just confirmed my preference for a large knife. The limbs on that branch, some of 'em 3" to 4" in diameter, were like hitting rebar. However, that little Camp 10 got the job done. I beat the absolute snot out of it. I put it away dirty, with nothing more than a couple of swipes on my pant leg. This morning, when I took it out to clean and oil it, the edge was mildly dull but not chipped or rolled. A coupla' no pressure/light swipes with an AccuSharp and it was back up and running.

I know NOTHING about 65MN steel but was blown-the-f*ck away by the performance of that little Camp 10... (*I think I scored it for about $40)

Aye, I had a bear of a time stripping cerakote off the fatty .320? Megamandu. F.M.L
Stripper won’t work, right? Only method I’ve heard works is sandpaper and a big can o elbow grease.

I’ve heard some guys sanded their cerakoted stuff and found all kinds of discontinued handle slabs like green linen and tigerhide under it. I figure it’ll wear off eventually, it’s already started to in a lot of places.

I tried my usual citristrip, but no... it didn't help much if at all. Maybe a tiny tiny bit? Probably not. Ended up hand sanding it over several days lol less than ideal because I was used to the regular coating on the rmds that fall off faster than a nudists clothes when hit with citri strip.

I didn't sand the handle, I don't know if the handle was cerakoted? Interesting lol

My handle sure is. The spots where it’s worn off it looks jet black. I’m thinking it might be black paper micarta.

Dammit, got me wondering now…. I see some logo etching and sanding in my crystal ball

I've always loved the black paper micarta, the quit offering it a long while ago tho didn't they? Maybe I'm trippin

I’m not sure. I don’t think they offer it anymore, but I could be wrong on that. I think it looks great. Just solid inky black.
Agreed. I think they switched to canvas micarta and g10 as options and nixed the BP micarta.
