Fixed pricing....

You do know that Benchmade has produced knives in China and continue to do so right? They just rebrand it to trick the gullible these days. You have the option to buy American with other companies just the same as with Benchmade complete with your neighbours and church buddies. What extra step, they use foreign steel from Bohler with no regard to your values.

Taken, but please don't get my point misconstrued. It probably wasn't politically correct to bring up our nationality, I myself am Filipino American. The company IS American but my post was in response to those on here who were setting examples as to why other companies ARE LESS AMERICAN by selling knives made in other countries, selling them for a price they do not approve of etc. hitting their point home that Benchmade is this All American company that we should support and and if anything NOT give a free pass to those other "Less American" companies. Spyderco, which is the company a poster here was referring to, was forced to go east in 2006 with their value line because of competition doing so a decade earlier such as Benchmade (cited here:http://www.spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?30951-quot-Tenacious-quot-model&p=391555#post391555)

I will refrain from this moving forward as I understand where I went wrong but knocking other brands and the idea of putting Benchmade in this ALL AMERICAN pedestal is also flawed when its humble beginnings were nothing but that and still make foreign knives to this day.

Nobody but YOU has mentioned anything about people or companies being more or less "American." That is your inference alone. I made a point about pricing structures only and never said the name of any other company. Why the hysteric response to my opinion, I do not know. We are on the Benchmade forum and all people are doing lately is bashing Benchmade because they have to pay some more for their knives if they decide to do so. Now a critical reference of a different pricing structure of a different and un-named company is made in an attempt to put things in perspective and attempt to give a point of relativity to pricing (the topic of this thread) -and people begin scratching at their eyes and throwing themselves onto a dog pile. It is absurd. Knives branded Benchmade are made in the USA and cost more. Knives contracted by Benchmade are made in other countries and cost far less. These are facts. Agreed; now why was this brought up? YOU alone have mentioned "American-ness". I am the child of an immigrant; I would never, ever use nationality to attempt to make such a stupid point in defense of anything, let alone a brand. Leave me out of your lame excuses.

As if I was the one who brought up other companies' situations to make excuses for Benchmade and their prices that many here take issue with. As far as me bringing up the other stuff, part of what Im saying was to make it clear that no company is perfect and bringing others' perceived flaws, it can be done with BM also. I could have left race out of it but no malice was really intended when I share the same heritage as Les.

The extra step where the compression lock won't break and the tip won't bust off and almost take your eye out because "made in Taiwan" is stamped on the blade despite companies claiming it's made in the USA when it's only assembled, not made.
My 530 has outlasted two of another "American" companies knives and is still going strong, my 940 is a tank and will probably outlast me. The quality and results speak for themselves. And if they don't, I'm pretty sure CS won't have a problem helping you out.

OK, OK, got it. I'm sure everybody reading this thread understands why, and for what reason nationality, country of manufacture, etc, was used and we also have read the tit-for-tat responses from both sides who are trying to defend their positions. Can we just drop the subject now. Ever heard of the old saying; beating a dead horse, OK, these days probably not the most politically correct saying, but you get the point. Keep it up and this thread will be on a path for being locked. :grumpy:

I agree that BM makes some high quality knives, I can attest to that, but I can also say that for its competition and looking at the topic of this thread, BM may want to listen to its customers because it has plenty of competition and now have even less products at the bread and butter price points. As far as CS I have deal weath BM's and other companies and they all treated me fairly so I dont see your point there.

I have to disagree with the "made in Taiwan" reference.
There are some absolute beauties coming from there.
Cheers

The topic was Benchmade's fixed pricing. We don't usually like discussions of other companies' knives in a manufacturer forum. This thread is off-topic and contentious, and has gone on long enough to have discussed the original topic anyway.

If the Benchmade moderator would like to reopen this, that's fine by me, but for now I am closing it.
