hey guys.
i've seen the collections thread, so i know some of you guys are (ahem) well-educated on flashlights.

i had a question, so figured i'd start a new thread.

i have pocket carried a foursevens preon p1 for at least a couple years now. really like the small size and the twist-on operation.

i lost it (3rd one during that timeframe) and see that they "reinvented" this model with a tail cap, which i don't prefer. i like my small light to be one that i can reach into my pocket and "turn on' with one hand. i know i could do that with a tail cap one, but it just doesn't feel right to me. too much fumbling. know what i mean?

so....what are your favorite "AAA size" twist-on (or if they still make a thumb button style) lights? could be either a AAA or AA light, really. i am looking for finger-size or under (think, daily pocket carry)

thanks all. cheers gents!

I pocket carry (in the same pocket as my phone) an Eagletac D25AAA. Twist head, 3 output levels, and single AAA cell...ticks all your criteria. I've carried this for over a year (lost one, bought the same model to replace it). I'm very pleased with it. The low setting is perfect for finding kids' toys under the couch, shoes under the car seats, etc. On high (145lumens) it's sufficient to light a room and has good "throw" for such a small light. The only gripe I have, and it's minor, is the pocket clip. It's to large (extends away from the body to far) and I never used it. Easy enough to remove though, I just broke it off.

Picture for size reference. Note the pocket clip is still intact in this picture.

i like it! thanks. and, i am not a pocket clip guy. i remove all of them from flashlights and knives alike. looks like a great size. thanks again. i am going to look for one now!

Try a peak eiger ultra it is a beast

thanks. searched on that too. interestingly enough, there is not much info out there about it. the Peak site doesn't even list the output that i could find. but, from the forum posts that i have seen, folks love them.

they are made in the USA, which i like. the pricepoint is about the same as the surefire titan (also USA). anyone have any experience with the surefire titan?

those may be my top choices right now. the eagletac is nice too and just did far too much searching to see if they are an american company. seems like they are, but manufactured in china.

I've been carrying the little Maratac AAA. They come in a variety of metals. My wife wife has a Lumintop Worm on her keychain. And my daughters have little O-Light's, I forget the model. I think pretty much all of them are available in materials from aluminum to titanium.

Afraid I like tail cap and pocket clips so don't have a good recommendation, but enjoying the show

Scooby!:D

Another vote for the Peak line of lights.
I too have an Eiger Ultra and love that they have a single power level. No clicking or twisting through different levels, just twist and it's ready to go with plenty of brightness for camping or what ever use you'd need a light for.
They are little tanks!
I had to sell a few lights a while ago but kept this one I like it so much.

Edit to add this from their site: Quantum Tunneling Composite (QTC) Technology for variable light output. This allows you to adjust the light output from a dim glow to the brightest single AAA battery flashlight available.

It doesn't take much of a twist to get to the brightest output so if you want a lower output you only need to turn it a little.

On the other hand, this Klarus was a close second, but the simplicity of the Peak won out and I regrettably sold the Kl..
The Klarus Mi x6 Ti is the smallest, slimmest and lightest AAA that I have had and it carried very, very, un-noticeably in pocket.
If you want different power levels + strobe I'd look at the AAA Klarus's.
And it has the twist head you like.

The Maraca AAAs are nice to imo. (got a couple in kits)

Love the power of the Peak and Titan, but mostly carry the LD02 without the clip in my 5th pocket.

I'm a fan of the Maratac lights. I have a few stashed in various bags, and there is usually one in my pocket. Fenix LD02 is a great little light, too. The Olight S1 Baton is a great little light that is very bright, but it runs on a CR123a instead of a AAA.

I'll third (or fourth) the Maratac AAA!!! I have many of them in various metals, but carry the old stainless steel version daily, and have done so for too many years to remember.

However, I would also highly recommend the Olight S10/S1. It is a CR123 though, but I use rechargeable instead of primary cells, and love it!

There are SO many AA/AAA options these days though, it's pretty hard to go wrong. Not like 12-15 years ago when you had the single 5mm LED Arc AAA and CMG Infinity Ultra-G. ;)

(AKA LEDmodMan on CPF :D)

PS - I sadly lost my trusty Ultra-G recently when I found an exploded battery in it. Had corroded the driver circuit to the point I was unable to save it. :(

My little Olight is my favorite, shown next to my JK pocket Kephart. I have been carrying it about 2-3 years now I think. Got it off the web for a little over $20 with free shipping. I use it all the time around the house and really like the clip because it is removable/reversible and can easily be clipped to a hat brim. It has three brightness settings and is about 80 lumens on high. It also has a strobe setting which I have never really needed. It did come with a key chain but I removed it because I had read reports of people loosing there lights because the key chain would break easily. I didn't want it anyway. If it quit working today it has been well worth the money and I would not hesitate to buy another one. I bought each of my sons one a good while back as well.

great posts guys. thanks for all of the input. i feel naked without my light in my pocket. funny how that works.

how do i buy a peak light? i see their site and one other. that seems to be it for options. would choose to order from their site, i think.

but, i think i'm going to need to lean on you guys again. i can select one of three LED tints: Cool White, Neutral White, and High CRI.

thoughts?

i can also do a narrow or medium beam. that's an easier decision for me. i would not need a little pocket light to throw a narrow beam with any distance, so i would choose medium on that.

followup: i just read some forum posts on this. i think i would steer clear of the High CRI. i think my choice would probably be neutral white, but still interested in hearing your input on it. thanks.

I would say neutral or HiCri, although I think most of the HiCri lights have a lower output.

I still don't like most of the neutral white LED flashlights. It's one thing in the house (many of my ceiling lights are neutral white LEDs), but I don't like the yellow tinge in a flashlight beam. YMMV.
