flashlight talk

Personally, I can't believe they charge that kind of money for any kind of flashlight. More than that, I can't believe that people pay that kind of money for them, me included. LOL! I know where the the big cost is, lathing or preparing the metal of choice, for the tubs. It's the same for adjustable stocks, and the tubs for them. I'm in the market for a couple of these mini's too, but I have to hold off for right now. We may be buying a new house and moving to FL before to long. Yvonne is heading down there on Monday to look around. Just have to wait and see.

I need a little help from those of you that have both. I'm looking at buying either a maratac aaa or a fenix ld02. I've looked at the differences and it seems like the only cons on the maratac is it's $15 more plus the shipping and a little heavier due to it being copper. Is the Maratac noticeably better?

I'm afraid I have never had a maratac but I can put a good word in for the ld02, it replaced by Mincrostream streamlight (which I thought was unbeatable from a quality/price perspective) and I haven't really looked back.

I don't have the Fenix, but my Maratac aaa Titanium is great. It's lightweight, BRIGHT, and carries really well in my pocket. It rides at the bottom of my left, front pocket beneath my phone.

The Maratac will definitely be heavier due to the copper, but it is a great light. The copper will develop a really nice patina after a while too.

Bought my son a peak and he put cheap battery in and left it too long, totally ruined. I'm still using an arc I've had for at least 10 years, if it ever dies, I'm getting a Peak.

I have both. The maratac has a better throw and is a bit brighter, but the twisty head makes one hand operation cumbersome. It's almost too small. The Fenix is very easy to operate with the tail switch and is more diffused. Great for lighting up what's right in front of you. I love them both.
Get one of each is my advice. Maratac is a better outside light and Fenix is a better inside light. Hope that helps.

Well here's another example of a thread on the JK forum that picked my pocket! After reading this, I picked up several of these little AAA lights. I lost my first Olight but replaced it with this 130 lumen version and attached it to my keys so it wouldn't go the way of the first one. It's really amazing how much light they can get out of these tiny lights!

All this flashlight talk has given me bad cravings. I have a Nitecore Tube on my keys that I could definitely look to upgrade. However I do enjoy that little light. Li-ion battery that charges on micro usb for about $10. Definitely good to have a light on hand.

My fiance got me a Fenix for Christmas that I like but that is usually chilling in the knife storage for in depth looking and sharpening.

I love my plain old black, aluminum AAA Maratac. It sits in my watch pocket with my Case Peanut all day, every day. The only time it's not in my pocket is when I'm asleep. I keep a spare Eneloop AAA tucked in the elastic strap of my Recycled Firefighter wallet.

I keep an Olight S20 Baton in my lunch kit for work, and an Olight M20SX Javelot on the night stand next to the bed. I've been very satisfied with all 3. The size, output, and battery config (1x18650) of the S20 Baton hit all the right buttons for me when it comes to a work light. The magnetic base is handy, too.

I haven't tried any Fenix lights; they're next on my list.
