Flashlights

I was going to get one here before long. Not now. At the end of it all, it is just a flashlight. Not worth that kind of money. That is knife money.

It may not be worth it to you, but they are worth it for people whose lives depend on a reliable light. Surefire has the best illum products out, that I have had experience with, and outstanding CS to back it up.

Fenix makes some pretty good lights as well, that are much easier on the wallet.

i was prepared with my pd20. my sheeple friends only had those puny, 30 lumens headlamps in their pack (i'm on the left).

Damn is that the mallninja clan?

Just playin....

Just a heads up. I've gotten a couple of emails about Surefire raising prices in the near future. I just ordered this light a week or so ago. Apparently, the price on it is about to double.
Now, that note about 1/30 is just a vendor note. Not sure when we'll see the price hikes across the board at various vendors.

That's ridiculous. Just more reason for me to buy more Fenix lights. SFs civilian market will go way down from this. Probably not their LE/military contracts though.

What is the difference between the Surefire G2X Pro & Surefire 6XP pro?

Is it just material used on body G2X Polymer/6XP Aluminum....
If so what would you pick?

I picked the polymer because it's going in my hunting pack and seems like it would be warmer on the hands.

Anyone notice if these prices have increased? I'm torn between a Fenix LD20 and the SF G2X or 6XP. Thoughts?

The only reason I'd say LD20 is because it's bright as heck (205 lumens at its most, just a tad over the new 6P, probably unnoticeable though) but it runs on AAs. Cheap, and easy to find.

Well, the vendor that sent me that email still has them at the same price, so I'm wondering if it was just a marketing tactic.
I've read elsewhere about the Surefire price hike though (other vendors and CPF), so I guess it's coming eventually.

Another question, is there anything particular that makes the SF E2D LED worth $100 more than the LD20? I know SF has better customer service and are American made, but to a novice like me, they seem similar.

Thanks again.

I'm not a light nerd, but one of my main gripes is dead batteries, so I've been slowly going LED. I've owned maglites for years, and still like 'em. My DD kept walking around the house on its own, so I bought a CC model for the lady which fits her hand better. A good bonklight. My own EDC has become the Surefire 6P-LED. I wanted to buy a similar Inova since its made in my state, but the hexagonal head of the surefire won out. I can't stand putting down a light only to have it roll off the counter, or buying accessories to correct that fundamental design flaw. I think the Surefires are overpriced for what they are, but they ARE nice lights. At twice the price I'll buy the rubber accessory for a maglite instead...

I should clarify - I don't carry this all the time, though when I travel for work it usually rides in my bag (so many opportunities to get stuck in dark trains...). It rides on my belt for hunting with a backup in the pack, and during this winter's storm season I've worn it around a bunch in case of power outages and whatnot. There are lights stashed around the house. More than necessary, fortunately, since the several main users migrate around. There are some lame lights in the cars that should be upgraded.

If your looking for a single cell light that can operate on a single AA or 123 then check out the JetBeam RRT-0

Awesome light with variable brightness controlled by a twist ring.

With the optional extender it allows you to use the single AA. Remove it and you can use a single 123.

I have a bunch of lights and the RRT-0 is my favorite.

wordity word word word

the current RRT-0 is something like *255* lumens; and brightness is controlled by a MAGNETIC rotating switching interface and is "infinitely variable". in a word "dimmer" control. rotate the ring one way, it gets brighter, not in steps, but smoothly. rotate the other way, dimmer. you get exactly the amount of light you need.

they had a run of a model that does 310 lumens in titanium body. slick :) needless to say, they sold out fast.

best part is they use rechargeable batteries TOO if you want. no more buying and throwing away CR123s, esp if you use your light a lot.

i know the main vendor i use offers a significant discount if you are on the right fourms (USN, CPF, etc) and know the magic word. i should ask him if he wants to swing over here, and offer us something something :) "BeckerLight" or something ;)

the M1X is the end all be all MagLite replacement. almost nothing on the market compares. throw some rechargeable batteries in that, equiv to 4x123 and boo yah. we won't even talk about the RRT-3 ;) and duh, they have weapons mounts. "who's there?" "MY EYES MY EYES I MEAN BRAINS"

Bladite,

There is an infinitely variable model?

My RRT-0 that I purchased about 6 mos ago has 4 levels.

Great, now I have to buy the improved model!
