Three times by three different dealers at three flea markets I have heard outright LIES about WR Case and Sons knives!

First Dealer : Case are made in China now. These Rough Riders are made in the same factory.

Second Dealer: Ever since Case moved to China I have noticed these Elk Ridge knives come in the SAME brown wrapper that Case knives come in.

Third Dealer: You know Frost owns Case now don't you? He has them made at his factories in China.

Is this a conspiracy by Cheap Knife Dealers to build up their knives at the expense of Case?? Anyone else hearing this crap?

Wow... either they themselves are ignorant to the true facts, or... they are outright sleezy characters. What people won't do for a buck, never ceases to amaze me :-(

I didn't try to correct them ...I just listened and then walked off. One of them had a neat little Parker from the 80's that I wanted but I didn't want to do business with him after he spread that manure about Case.

Some people will do anything to make money even if it is slandering an American company. This just make me angry. I will continue to buy the "Chinese made" cases, because I bet they still are better than these dealers knives.

There's a very good reason why Case is a century-old, successful, multi-billion$ manufacturer of a good product, and why 'Flea Market Knife Dealers' are still selling at flea markets.

Case has nothing to worry about, from those guys. Their customers know better, and have known better for a very long time.

'Nuff said.

I've heard the same thing at a flea market in Mobile, Al. This seller had a bunch of old Case knives from the 60's and 70's. He also had a few new ones. Well, I have several old Case knives, so I was looking a new Case trapper. Also, the seller wanted a FORTUNE for all the old knives. Much more than they are worth.
Anyway, he comes over to me and says " you don't want that new Case knife." I asked why. He said "they are all made in China now." I just gave him a " Is that right?" And walked away...

I had to correct a casual friend the other day who was under the same assumption about Case being in China now. Didn't even ask where he attained that info but I would guess at a flea market or the like???

However he was carrying a cheapo knock off with no brand name even stamped.

These three guys were all in Alabama also! North Bama not Mobile but still they could be in the same Slander Cell Network :)

The only knives made offshore for Zippo/Case are their modern style TecX knives.

The flea marketeers are either lying to get you to buy their other imports making you think you don't have a choice, or they are very uninformed and spreading the misinformation. Rubes selling to other rubes.

In their defense I WAS wearing a Hawaiian shirt and a wide brim fedora......maybe I looked gullible or like a tourist.

The key words here are "Flea Market". What did you expect?

back in the day I was at a Flemarket. people would come to my booth just to see what case knifes I had in stock. none of the other dealer would buy them. made me happy because I use to sell the heck out of them. I still have one to day. 1 out of 500 first production made. brand new still in it's box. I still have some limited edition 1 out of 3000 left. I am not going to sell them here. I have never listed these any where. I think I am just going to keep them. this whole post is to say not every knife dealer at the flemarket is trying to rip you off.

I too have sold Case Knives at the Flea Market. Right beside the Rough Riders and Taylor Brands Schrade knives. I never said all Flea Market dealers were out to rip people off. What I WAS inferring is not to trust every Flea Market rumor you hear. I've been hearing all this stuff for years. I don't even react to it anymore. At least not at Shows. On a, huh hem, Respected Collectors Forum is another matter.

I've heard it at the flea markets too. If these guys are spreading what they've heard, they shouldn't be selling at all, they have nil knowledge in knives. More than likely they are scam artists casting out for a sale. Someone dumb enough to bite will come along. I've found old knives at these dealers booths, as well as new Case trappers (usually trappers for some reason). Some deals, most of the time they wanted them gone and I got a great deal. Every single dealer at flea markets has said no one wants the Case, Buck etc(Schrade is still USA made as far as they think). As Bob and others have said, there are still good dealers out there but most just can't move good knives. I only look for used knives at these shows.

By the way, I used to nod and move on too when I heard that spiel, or was told that the Franklin mint commemorative could skin a deer or the "survival" knife would chop down a tree. I was going to edgeamacate them, but instead I take my Charlow or 73 out of my pocket and let them get the GEC disease ;). They must have a fit when they see the prices.

To add this Is what I have seen in md, central pa, n de and e Wv at the outdoors flea markets. Indoor junk malls etc have a better selection of old knives.

I'm in OK, but had a gentleman tell me at the gunshow yesterday, new Bucks were all made in china. Sad thing is I bought from him, I got a nifty little 1997, 303 off of him for 10 dollars, he just needed money. I here stuff like that all the time. Case would shoot themselves in the foot making their knives in china. BTW RR makes a fine knife, especially for the price, it's sad they have to be sold this way. Most around here are grossly overpriced, one individual was buffing off the China mark, and selling them as American made. He's a notorious gun/junk/knife trader in this neck of the woods.

For the money, Rough Riders are a GREAT knife. They serve several purposes in the market place. A person who is not familiar with the various patterns can try Rough Riders at an entry level price before spending a lot of money on a knife he might not like. Also, it gives young folks a reasonable shot at starting a decent collection with lawn mowing money. And even as grown ups, I recognize that not everybody can afford to buy GEC's one after the other. But I still want to see them collecting knives! And, boy howdy, some people just LIKE Rough Riders! There's room for everybody. EXCEPT Liars!
