My DOC also flys out of the handle extremely fast but it has a host of other issues that I posted about previously. On the DOC it is definitely heavy blade and super strong detent. Plus the lock bar tension is really high.

Purple, after seeing that other post about he custom knife factory morrf I ordered two really nice flippers. The morrf (preordered from knifecenter) and I just ordered the KJ venom 2. Same thing as the one you posted in that other post. Both are knives that imediately spoke to me. I'm glad to see the venom 2's are available now. I've handled KJ'S in the past and was really impressed with the quality so when I saw an origional design from them I wanted to support their change for the better. I'm hoping that the action is good.

You wont be disappointed with either. The morrf i originally said that the blade doesnt drop under its own weight but since that post it has broke in nicely and now it closes just as nice as the venom. They are both killer knives but i must admit nothing besides the morrf has been in my pocket since i got it.

My DOC blade rockets out of the handle regardless of if you flip it via push button or light switch. Have you ever handled a DOC?

If your DOC has never been lubed, and is factory dry, then I would understand it flipping slowly. As I posted earlier, some good oil, I use reel oil, makes a big difference. The same was true for my Mini Matrix. When I got it, it was dry. Some reel oil in the bearings and it rockets out of the handle.

Yes i have handled them. I know its an all too popular trend for people to speak about things of which they have no experience but im not one of those people. Anyhow, like all knives there will be variances among them. I wasnt saying all doc knives are sluggish. Im simply stating that the shape and placement of the flipper dont do it any favors. And i feel in ota case a strong detent is needed to flip to my standards. Believe it or not when microtech started doing flippers they didn't have really strong detents. It seemed they really manted people to have equal ease of operation with the thumb studs. From what i hear the newer flippers are stiffened quite a bit.

My ZT 0454 has the best flipping action among my knives. It's got a very firm detent that, when overcome, always opens the blade completely. Any orientation (right side up, upside down, sideways) and any technique (push-button style, light-switch style, or even holding it upside down and nudging the flipper with my knuckles), the blade always flies out and locks into place. This one has dominated my EDC rotation since I got it.

On the low budget side, the Kershaw Strobe (Diskin design with KVT, unfortunately china steel) is a lightning fast flipper.

Here here!
KVT and Diskin design for $40?? Yes please!
This little thing flips with the best of them. Detent is a bit strong, but it flies out with authority once you overcome it.

Great flipping value here

It's a great knife, isn't it?:D:thumbup:

Mine always makes its way into my daily rotation.
No safe queens here, if it breaks, oh well...

You're the only person I've seen that actually uses his 0454 (besides myself). Everyone that's tucking theirs in a safe is missing out!

Judging by the qc issues my doc had and the variences in lockup percentage from one example to another, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the action varies greatly from knife to knife.

I've been thinking of picking up a kershaw strobe. Very nice looking little value blade

Very neat little knife. Super strong detent and it made it incredibly fast. Mine had a lot of lockbar pressure so when paired with the short blade it didnt seem as smooth as many bigger flippers. But with that said I still think its the best production bearing flipper in its price range. The ergos were great to boot.

I can second what bld522 feels about his Olson...... I bought Rods personal carry Quick flick off him last fall. It has unreal responsive action, so fast. He told me he carried it for a year of so, and as far as i'm concerned thats the difference.... fully broke in and now lightning fast. I sold my Shirogorov t95 shortly after acquiring the quick flick, I found it was equally as satisfying to flip, and the button lock makes it my favourite 3 inch blade.

I handled one at my local sporting goods store and I purchased it on the spot.

It really is an incredible design with equally amazing execution. If I ever did manage to break it, I'm pretty sure I'd be in tears. LE or not, it's still a ZT, so it was built to withstand use. :) It may have a slim and elegant appearance, but at its core, it is a very solid and robust knife.

I've owned a ton including four figure customs and my Matt diskin flipper is one of the best.

I'm really hoping KAI puts out something like this from the ZT line.
I'm sure I can't afford an actual Matt Diskin custom, but surely there is some room in the market somewhere between this and the Kershaw Strobe, right? ;)

I think flippers are silly. You've got to take them out of your pocket.. Reposition your hand hold, flip them open.. Reposition your hand hold yet again!... Then you're ready to use them. They're fun toys by a spydie hole is infinitely more practical. That being said, since no ones mentioned it yet this is one of my better flippers

I don't find it nearly as complicated as you make it sound. It fact when I pull a flipper out of my pocket my index finger is already on the flipper, I flip it and merely drop my finger down around the handle, holding it in a natural grip automaticly. Doesn't seem any harder or slower to me than any other one hand opening folder.

I find that the best way to open a knife is more muscle memory than method. For example, if you're used to thumb studs then it takes a conscious effort to convert to a flipper. But if your used to a flipper, you've already incorporated all those little details subconsciously. Like Jill said, her finger just naturally goes to that flipper. I'd imagine if one had ONLY ever used flippers, a stud or spydie hole would be an adjustment as well.

Well, anyway, for someone that don't like flippers, yours sure is purty.

My favorite of the flippers I've owned has been the Shirogorov mod 95.
The 3 ZT flippers I've owned ( 0561, 0801, 0562 ) have been great also.
