Hello All
I am sure that a lot of you have noticed a lot of flipper activity in the exchange lately.
People snapping up fairly priced knives here then flipping them at secondary market gouge on the bay. I am also sure a lot of you feel as I do about these practices.
Well I think we can work together to move the exchange away from it and back a bit to a place good honest members can buy, sell trade at good honest prices without dealing with this problem. We can’t get rid of this completely but maybe we can help at least some folks find the knives they are looking for and make it harder for the flippers to make a buck off of us.
I propose a more dedicated use of the Wanted to Buy forum both as sellers and buyers. If we work direct with one another we can cut these people out of the loop and perhaps even greatly reduce the money they are making off of the good honest folks here.
The exchange is a big deal here and draws a bunch of new members. Most don’t stay after buying a knife but lots do. I did. I’m lucky to have been here for years ( a decade between a couple accounts) and have made a lot of great friends that help me find what I’m looking for. The new guys not so much.
What say you all? Can we take an extra 5 minutes before posting a for-sale to browse the Wanted to Buy forum and maybe get the knife into the hands of a real BF member instead of some dude using our exchange to buy stock for his gouge emporium?

This should be in the gb&u section but I agree. I absolutely loathe the greedy imbeciles who buy up fairly priced knives and flip them for profit. A while back I wanted an mg ad15, a guy on here who I messaged was just burned by a flipper who immediately relisted the knife he sold him on ebay for a stupid price and didn't want to sell one to me.

I try and keep a mental note of who the jerks are and make sure to flip them the bird if they want a knife I am selling. Years ago I think I started a thread on possibly making a list of flippers, I don't think it was well received.

They are a nuisance to many hobbies. Unfortunately.

That’s exactly what I do. I’ll look at the WTB sub forum to see what people are looking for. That gives me the opportunity to look at the member to see if they’re part of the community by where they’re posting at. I also look at the sales forum to see if someone missed out on a knife, check their post areas and if it’s one I’ve got, make them an offer.
I’ve had good luck selling knives using that method instead of listing them.

As long as people are buying high, folks will sell high.
It's not necessarily the selling high, though, that is annoying on its own. Members sometimes sell knives at reasonable or even great prices because they are paying it forward. When a flipper snatches them up and sells it for silly prices, it's another level of douchery.

I suppose people should stop listing knives for good prices and everyone just sell high. Then no room for flippers here. But that obviously would suck too. Not much can be done, though I would enjoy compiling a list of the a holes who do this kind of crap.

I don't participate in the exchange as much anymore anyway. I have a fairly large number of knives I'm gonna list for sale soon though, at non d bag prices. I'll try and be diligent in who I sell to.

Will we then attempt to reduce the sales of all the people that are buying up the hot releases and flipping them here at 3x their purchase price?

I don't know how much it will help eliminate flippers, but I have had great success with the wanted ads , both as buyer and seller. So I highly endorse their use.
I assume flippers could use want ads also, but I don't spend much effort worrying about flippers. If someone has something I want at a price I am willing to pay, I buy. If not I just move on. So far it has worked out fine. I can't afford to buy every knife I fancy anyhow.

What is a "Roosevelt at table price"?
An OZ Machine Company Roosevelt, which is eye-wateringly expensive to start with and instantly becomes painfully expensive on the secondary market when the drops sell out immediately.

Thanks! Is "table price" some kind of code for the original sale price?

Well since I’m sure not many or no one else will I’ll step forward, I will. Yep, I flip. I buy and sell. Isn’t against the rules. I usually don’t flip here for profit, I use other sources. Ones I relist here are a lot of time for what I paid plus shipping, like the 2 I have listed now. According to my feedback many members are more then happy to buy from me and totally happy with the service I give. I figure if people don’t like what I do then they can put me on ignore and we each go about our lives. I’m not going to be drawn into name calling and all that ridiculous stuff over buying and selling knives. Not everyone agrees with everything that goes on in the world. That’s life.
