Folder around $600

Support a maker and buy customs. That price range can get you a very nice custom with your choice of all materials.
Why buy a factory model everyone else has, get a one of a kind custom

I hear you, Robert. I actually just sent an e-mail to Chuck Gedraitis re: the knife I posted earlier in this thread. We'll see if he responds.

Chuck makes great knives. There is also Alan Davis and Ray laconico and several others. Also check out the knife makers gallery under the knife makers discussion area

Thanks. I'm familiar with Alan's and Ray's work, and you're right. They both make excellent knives.

Second Ray Laconico's folders, my current favorite. He does exceptional work with clean lines. I've seen Alan Davis' work as well and been quite impressed, smooth style with a little more flair. Go for a custom maker!

Chuck just responded. Looks like I might be able to get the knife I want from him. I should know in a week or two. Meanwhile, I'll keep an eye on the Customs section. You never know what might pop up. :)

Go get a El patron flipper from Jeremy Robertson.

Or an xm18 will do the trick :D.

Thanks, Zookie. I handled an XM-18 at the Plaza Cutlery show a couple of years ago and while it's an unquestionably a terrific knife, it didn't appeal to me. I like to carry knives that have a certain artistic element to them. My current EDC is a William Henry B7-FT:

That should give you an idea of what I mean by "artistic element".

I also like to carry my knives unclipped and deep in my pocket. So keeping the weight to a minimum is a key issue for me.

The Gedraitis knife I posted earlier has a blade length of ~3.5" and a blade thickness of 0.135", but it's only 5/16" wide across the handles and weighs just 2.6 oz. Those are the kinds of specs that REALLY get my attention.

I also checked out the El Patron folder. Unfortunately, Jeremy doesn't publish weight in his specs. But based on the specs he does publish, my guess is that it weighs far more than 4.0 oz. So it's out of the running, I'm afraid.

I second the El Patron, I'm sure they could make one to your preferred weight, plus it's just so simple and beautiful it's artistic.
However, I agree with you that Chuck makes some of the most gorgeous knives ever.

I'm also a fan of Ray Laconico. And Alan Davis' knives just tickle my fancy.

There are also several Production knives that fit the bill.

However, at $600 I would go custom as well.

That is an absolutely gorgeous WH. You have a gem.

Have you considered Darrel Ralph? I'm lusting over his customs, but I highly doubt I will ever plunk down more than $250 for a knife so they're currently just a dream.

Not tempted by Chuck Gedraitis' offerings on the exchange...? The framelock looks pretty tasty :)

I'm always tempted by Chuck's offerings on the Exchange. But I'm going to hold out for the knife I want unless something comes along that yanks me in another direction before we're able to strike a deal.

I've got a couple of HTM Gun Hammers, so I'm set for Darryl Ralph knives at the moment.
