Nice- about time we got this thing started!
but the big question is- fat or thin?
how about a .32 blade- 2" long- it could double as a chisel! ;)

The masses have spoken. :D

Let's send Jerry and Rick Hinderer some booze, ammo and an invitation to a nearby grinder abd see what happens. Xm-18 in infi? Crazy talk!

Ok, I have a question, we all know that Busse come in all different prices and sizes. What is everyone looking for? What kind of price rage? You do realize that to make a good folder worthy of the Busse name, it would cost a lot of money in R&D and only the highest materials would be used so it probably won't be cheap, so what is the highest everyone is willing to pay for a good folder?
I know good customs can cost well over a thousand dollars, so what's everyone expecting to pay?
I know I would pay over $1500 for a custom and don't expect anything for under $500 so I think that would be out of a lot of people price range. What is everyone expecting? Maybe a short high end production run like the dagger?

Well, I know that the LionSteel SR-1 with its one piece titanium frame, locking open feature, frame lock, is about $310 euros (about $405 usd) and these are similar features that I would like to see on the Busse folder, so I would expect to see a Busse folder in the $450 - $550 range. I doubt a hardcore tough knife could be made in the $250 - $300 range, but who knows. I would not expect Busse to tool up to do a limited production run, as it would be too much cost. I would expect Jerry to do a long run with maybe a few Custom Shop pieces along the way for shows. I would not want to see a aluminum body folder, but would expect a titanium frame or at minimum, titanium liners.

All the folders below have a one piece titanium frame, the LionSteel SR-1 is the second and third ones up from the bottom.

If a Lochsa mated with an XM18, with an INFI blade, and was available for ~$500 - I'd buy one.

Or, if a Small Sebenza mated with a BAD, with a thINFI blade, and was available for ~$400 - I'd buy one.

However, if it has even the faintest hint of Nuclear Seahorse genes - I'll skip it like nobody's business.

Simple, bulletproof, classic/classy, and well under $1000 for a base model - or not at all.

Yea, I don't think that is realistic, if you look at the ABS LE with a 4" blade which would be nice for a folder. That's a great deal going on right now for $297. So to go from that size blade from a fixed blade to a folder, it's going to cost at least $200. Look at the Hinderers knives for example. There is much more parts and pieces to go into them.

So Jerry has a great thing going on with the fixed blades. The custom shop is super busy and so is the production line, so where are they going to come up with the extra man power to make folders? Everyone does realize there is much more work and parts to get to make a folder right? Then all of that has to be under the Busse Warranty... Folders can break more easier because so many more functional parts and pieces. So why would Jerry take away man power, time and capital from his fixed blades and to make a folder that would have a lower profit margin? A lot of time would have to go into R&D, then to get all high end parts and assembly would take longer...

Other companies have connections and experience along with machines for folders, that's a lot to invest for something that isn't a sure thing isn't it?

Those are good points and questions, although the $297 + $200 = $497, which is in the range I mentioned, plus XM-18s are in the $550 range direct from Rick, Striders are also in the same price range, they all seem to make it work.

I can't say what motivates Jerry to make or not make in the way of knives, but maybe he wants to venture past just fixed blades, maybe he has figured out how to make folders at a price that it benefits all involved, maybe he wants to make a better folder than Strider, Hinderer or others, maybe he just wants to shut me up!!!!

I don't care what reason he wants to use to make a FOLDER, I just want him to make some!!! :D

+1000 :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
Agree 100%

How about a partnership with Benchmade, CR, or Hinderer to put INFI in an existing design?
It would be under the folder manufacturer's warranty.

Seriously though, why couldn't a decent folder be had for even under $500? I understand R&D, and new machines and what not, and that that would drive up the price initially. If the venture proves profitable and enough people want them (which I'm almost positive is the case) I'd think Jerry would make it a production product and eventually prices could come down.

I know its not a BUSSE... or even some of the more coveted custom names, but my ZT301 is a f*ckin beast. It, to me would be the bar I'd expect Busse to at least surpass. Ok, we all love INFI and its the only steel for us... but on a realistic level, good sub $500 folders can be and are produced.

In my mind, that's the only way Jerry will sell enough to make it profitable. Its not like his fixed blades. There is nothing like a 1/4" fixed INFI blade and I'd never depend on anything else. There ARE however already a bunch of good dependable folders out there you can rely on... and simply "one made of INFI" isn't go to sway the larger masses. Certainly not if it's $600.

I think you guys (us, me, we) need to take a realistic step back sometimes. I've used and abused an $80 CRKT M16-13z for nearly 10 years. Now I have a ZT301 and honestly any more knife than that really isn't worth it. I can't imagine getting $400 more knife.
