See this is what blows my mind. And please take this as conversational value and not personal or argumentative. The idea that you get what you pay for is true... to an extent. Personally I think its the mentality like this that drives even the prices of Busse knives way out of proportion. But I pay for them.
Simply charging $1500 for a folder doesn't make it better than a great knife that "only" costs $400. If a guy makes 200 knives a year and charges $1000 for it, it doesn't necessarily mean its better than a reputable company that makes 10 times that many and charges half the price. It simply does not cost upwards of $500+ to make a good folding knife. You're not being realistic, and I'd question how often you even use a knife if you think so. You're obviously in a different bracket if you only use and think good folding knives can only be had for $1000.
You're talking about a Lionsteel as if it were some piece of garbage not worth even mentioning. I've put my ZT through hell. I've batoned with it, I've scored sheet metal, I dug shiny pieces of rock out of other rocks for my kid with it, and a whole bunch of other tough use tasks. And I paid $200 for it... and it was used. I'm not going to let some manufacturer believe that he HAS to charge an arm and a leg for a good knife. Its not the case.
If it takes 20lbs of perpendicular-to-the-blade force to snap a $200 knife, you're telling me, proportionally speaking that a "better knife" at $800 will withstand 80lbs... it doesn't work that way. Eventually technology levels off and your just over paying.
I really hate to say it, and I mean no offense, and this is not necessarily directed at anyone, but it sounds like an elitist attitude thinking you can't get a good folding knife unless you're paying $600+ for it.
I think Jerry is smart enough to know that he can expand his fan base immensely by producing a "good" folding knife, priced fairly enough for the common guy and it doesn't have to be some super, unbreakable, unobtainable uber-knife. Because a lot of companies are doing it.

Those are good points and questions, although the $297 + $200 = $497, which is in the range I mentioned, plus XM-18s are in the $550 range direct from Rick, Striders are also in the same price range, they all seem to make it work.
I can't say what motivates Jerry to make or not make in the way of knives, but maybe he wants to venture past just fixed blades, maybe he has figured out how to make folders at a price that it benefits all involved, maybe he wants to make a better folder than Strider, Hinderer or others, maybe he just wants to shut me up!!!!![]()
I don't care what reason he wants to use to make a FOLDER, I just want him to make some!!!
.
a folder would bring world peace. I'll trust the folks in wauseon to the specs... They haven't steered me wrong yet.
Well, there was that time at the golden manor and the breakfast buffet but i blame stewie for that.
Okay we hear ya...however Jerry will "Bring It" when he feels it readyand YES IT WILL HAPPEN.
I understand the death chat...BUT let's keep it to the Busse Folder. I have read alot of these post's and some of you are kinda getting well.....weirdand it seem's that it could go into a different direction. I am weird I know but.....just sayin
WE would hate to have to lock it downcause I think it will get out of hand
XOXO,

And I was just going to start a "FOLDER Startup Fund" for Jerry to get things rolling! I figured if we could collect $200 - $300 towards the initial FOLDER R&D, machines, and manpower, that would put Jerry over the top to start production!!!!

I'm not sure why you think this thread can "Get out of hand" or is "weird", we are only stating we would like a folder, discussing what we would like to see in one (like cost and design features) and the pros and cons of producing a folder. I don't see any reason for locking down a thread like this.
