If Steve can bring it, so can Jerry.

My dream folders are AIRKATs (out of my price range though) but I use ZTs. Hard enough use for me. If Busse puts out a folder I really hope that it will come in a version I don't have to save for a year to get. That's just me though.;)

I have a Carrillo Tripwire 1 that only sits in the safe. I love the look of Dwaine's knives but the cost and ergos would prevent me from using one. The razor sharp choil is a cool but impractical and unnecessary feature.

I can't imagine that we'll see a Busse folder with a frame lock but maybe I'm wrong. The reason why I don't think we'll see an Integral Lock which was invented by Chris Reeves is because it has been improved upon twice by Rick Hinderer. He moved the lock bar cut-out to the inside and added the lock bar stabilizer to prevent a catastrophic failure. So inorder to have a truly tough frame lock 2 of the best design features would have to be credited to Rick Hinderer, and the lock itself to Chris Reeves. So while Strider and Zero Tolerance have no problems doing this, I don't see Busse following suit. I think the Busse folder will have a unique/original locking mechanism.

and if you're correct - it's a large part of why there's no Busse folder.

reinventing the wheel, and a nuclear tough wheel at that, isn't easy.

I just hope it doesn't have to many parts to the lock, simple usually works well on folders, meaning: easy to take apart and clean.

I should have written that RH moved the lock bar cutout to the outside not inside.

He has a design unique enough to have a patent.

It doesn't look simple though. There are a lot of parts in the drawing.

For a combination of simplicity, wear resistance, and strength, a lock back is hard to beat.
It's also ambidextrous.

I was just at Rick Hinderer's place last Saturday for a GTG, and we spent the afternoon in his shop watching Rick grind a custom spanto blade and build an XM-18. As you may know, for the Gen 3 knives, Rick makes everything in house except the blades. The blades get waterjet cut, heat treated, and double disc ground by outside shops. If Rick can pay for those guys' profit margins and still deliver the knife for $385, then it seems to me that Jerry could do it for not much more. Even assuming that INFI costs more than any other steel, Busse can probably do every single operation in-house, which keeps the cost down. We've seen pics of the multiple CNC machine centers he has. So a Busse folder for ~ $550 seems plausible to me.

I don't need a $500 hard use folder, but that's just me. Let me ask you folder users, how tough does it have to be? Are the XM-18 or Strider folders tough enough? Short of prying open car doors, can you break one of those?

It has to be tough, but no tougher than a Hinderer. I can't speak for Strider, as I own none, and probably never will...but how I got sold on the XM-18 was seeing pix of the Gen I with a truck parked on it and a vidclip of Rick throwing one repeatedly at a piece of plywood nailed to a tree. Both (I'm assuming that they were different XM-18's) still functioned flawlessly and that was when Rick used a half-liner on the G-10 side (Gen II's and up now have a full titanium liner). I'd like to see it tough enough to pry open a car door before failure... ;) BUT, I certainly don't expect a warranty to cover that kind of use. I carry a hard use folder every day for many reasons where a normal folder would do...however, in case I need it to do tougher tasks up to & including going all out to save my life or the life of another, I want a folder that I can rely on and if it breaks after achieving that task, then I'm happy to pay for a new one...and I'll do it with a smile.

I am a Sebenza guy. I love the compact and unobtrusive form of the Sebenza both in and out of my pocket. It has never let me down and I use mine a good deal for more then just cutting my apples. I also like EKI but that is more of a SD blade to me. EKI's are sick blades if you understand them. I LOVE all titanium frame locks but only if they lock TIGHT and stay that way every time. When it comes to a folder for me I want tough but a Sebenza is tough enough for me. As for price, well I have an EKI story to try and describe my feelings on that.

Here is a pic of my most valuable folder:

Now here is a print screen of that knife on EKI's website:

It is by far my favorite folding knife but not because of the cost, and I didn't pay that for it myself, but more because I like the knife. When I first got it I carried it and used it for a while. When I felt regret for carrying it Mr. Emerson COMPLETELY refinished the knife personally for me. he also sent it back to me with a page long letter telling me about making the knife and some other cool things like that.

But, I have a few EKI's and here is another 12:

This one has seen a lot of use in the years that I have had it and not once did I feel bad about it. It cost me under 500 direct from EKI. So, its 1/4 the price and an all titanium frame lock.

So, I guess what I am saying is I would like to see the toughest design in a practical priced and sized folder so I will actually use and carry it with me. Thats my 2 cents on the folder.:)

Get creative and make your own titanium integral offset frame lock with notched thumb ramp, stainless pins, spacer, and thumb stud from your favorite small Busse.....what's the big deal?:yawn:

No.....these aren't photoshop's.
