Folders or Fixed.

Been EDCing fixed blades for years now. Local laws do not allow carrying one-hand operable, locking folders (stupid, but it is what it is) so Sebenza et al. stay at home. Fixed blades up to 12 cm/4.7" blade length are OK, so a BRK Mini Kephart is the EDC of choice right now.

I’ve carried a knife since I was a ten year old boy. I’ve always had the philosophy that an EDC knife should primarily be a folder and for outdoor activities ( hunting, camping, fishing ) a fixed blade is better. Any body have any thoughts on this?
Yeah I also think the same way. However, now there are many EDC oriented fixed blades. So, I would say fixed blades unless the law dictates otherwise. Unfortunatelly, here in the UK, we are very limited in terms of what we can legally carry.

Not when I’m sleeping. I actually carry quite a bit more. I have my phone, a silver dollar from my grandfather, a PM2 in my LFP toward the front of my pocket. Same pocket holds a Modlite PLHv2 in 18650. LBP has a pocket notebook and pen. RBP is my wallet. RFP is a back up light (Surefire EDC1LT), primary pocket knife (Emerson Commander today), money clip, buck 301 in a slip, Northwoods Presidential in a slip, watch pocket is my keys. Hip is a Sig P320 X-Compact IWB. Front is a small fixed blade (Spartan Blades Enyo today) riding horizontal. If my shirt has a pocket, then I usually have a random knife in there too, just for chucks and yucks.
That sounds exhausting

If you only had some grenades, and a bottle of nitrous: you'd be ready for a REAL party! 🙃

I normally carry a slip joint in my pocket, often but not always add a locking folder with pocket clip when out and about. For me at least, fixed blade knives are typically hunting knives. I love them, have quite a few, but seldom carry them.

yeah, generally I agree with OP’s practice. I love a good fixed blade, but generally my slip joints do what I need. I’ve been carrying an izula an a homemade sheath more because it conceals pretty well and is far beneath the critical 4” blade length Connecticut seems to care about.

Primary EDC has always been a fixed blade, since about 1980. Currently carry load is a White River Sendero Classic, 4-1/2" S35VN blade, some kinda folder, a Leatherman Micra, and a .45 Commander with a spare mag.
More than once I have had to tell cops the law concerning carry knives in our municipality. And I don't care what the average Joe & his ol' lady think of my bladeware. I'm not carrying for him, OR his wife...

.45 Commander is serious old school goodness…

Yes I’m the same way since I was a kid. I carry two folders for edc a small stockman slippy and a usually a large modern type flipper.

For outdoor activities I add a fixed blade to meet that specific task along with my edc folders.

Learned the .45 from my uncle, Sam, about 1980. Never saw any reason to change. Have owned and shot dozens of different designs and calibers, but my carry guns have always been .45 1911s.
Bigger holes equals more leakage. Leakage is good.

Amen!! Old Slabsides throws a righteous amount of lead downrange!
I carry mine in a Galco S.O.B. Holster.
