Folders or Fixed.

I wonder why so many folks seem to carry more than one folder?

Amen!! Old Slabsides throws a righteous amount of lead downrange!
I carry mine in a Galco S.O.B. Holster.
Dan Wesson CBOB. In my opinion, the perfect carry 1911. Hand-fitted Ed Brown parts, excellent trigger, tritium night sights. A full $999, out the door, 13 years ago. It's everything I ever wanted in a carry gun. Sold a Kimber Pro-Carry II lightweight to get the DW. With a proper gun belt, the extra weight of the steel frame isn't a problem, and it helps with recoil. At least, that's what they say, I've never thought a .45 was that bad, altho I don't much like less than a 3.5" barrel, even with a steel frame, mostly for reliability issues. YMMV.

Carry method depends on my mood, and what I'm going to be doing. Aside from the gun/mag, fixed blade, Micra multi-tool, and belt, everything else changes regularly.

The Wessons are good shooters. Mine is a stainless A-1 Colt; that's been treated to a McCormick CF trigger, an oversized link, hand-fit bushing, and an Ed Brown bobbed hammer.
Getting back to the range for some bullseye fun with my MK II this Wednesday; after too many years away from it!

Modern hard use folders have come a long way toward rivaling fixed in strength and reliability .

For example , Cold Steel Tri-ad lock folders , especially the thicker ones with tougher steel are unlikely to fail with reasonable care .

Still , worth having fixed for the worst abuse wedge / pry bar / baton use . Still cleaner and easier maintenance .

Not when I’m sleeping. I actually carry quite a bit more. I have my phone, a silver dollar from my grandfather, a PM2 in my LFP toward the front of my pocket. Same pocket holds a Modlite PLHv2 in 18650. LBP has a pocket notebook and pen. RBP is my wallet. RFP is a back up light (Surefire EDC1LT), primary pocket knife (Emerson Commander today), money clip, buck 301 in a slip, Northwoods Presidential in a slip, watch pocket is my keys. Hip is a Sig P320 X-Compact IWB. Front is a small fixed blade (Spartan Blades Enyo today) riding horizontal. If my shirt has a pocket, then I usually have a random knife in there too, just for chucks and yucks.

and a good belt!! Or belt system. :)

Both.

I find a small fixed blade (horizontal belt carry) much easier to employ and put away than a folder. I wear one almost all the time. It has completely replaced my Sebenza.

I also almost always have a medium slip joint in my pocket, usually a SAK (Compact or Cadet). Great when you want to be discrete, lend a blade, use a thin blade, or use any of the additional function/tools.

Lastly, I keep a tiny SAK Classic SD Alox in my wallet just in case I opt not to take one or both of the others. It takes up almost no room, so why not.

A folding knife is more "practical" in some ways; I liken it to having a rifle vs a sidearm/pistol. No one will doubt the effectiveness of a rifle, but they are not concealable on body like a handgun. In the same way a fixed blade isn't always practical while a folder of some variety can be carried in just about any situation.

That said I always have a fixed and at least one folder on person at all times (not including a firearm, and a TQ). Fixed is a Spyderco Ronin 2; it is never used and is strictly for "other duties." Folders can be stretched into that line of work but are for daily tasks - for me typically a CRK or MKT of some flavor.

The old adage that a folding blade is just a broken fixed knife might not always be true, but I think there is some truth to it. Task dependent of course.

and a good belt!! Or belt system. :)
I have a Kore belt. It works really well and o don’t have to deal with fold-overs or any nonsense like cobra buckles. I like that I can adjust it throughout the day, but I overestimated my overweight waist and I am getting toward the size limit in terms of tightness. I can nearly pull the belt all the way to the end of the ratchet system when tightening, so I may need to get one size down.

Two of each (folder left and right, plus fixed on right hip and around neck), a diamond rod, and a Klarus XT2C. Leatherman sidekick. Canada, so no pistol. "Men don't wear pistols in Canada". Some of my fellow Canuckians will recognize that last little anti-gun propaganda quote offered by the CBC's "heritage moment" a couple decades ago.

I never thought that men "wore" pistols.
Aren't they either packed, or carried?

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. I alternate between saying I am carrying a knife or wearing one. I believe that wearing is the more fitting term, though. Carrying implies a burden. But it's pretty ubiquitous, so I roll with it.

Well, a horse wears a saddle, but carries a man. 🤷‍♂️
