Folding knives you trust...

I've always liked the Spyderco Endura 4. Simple, fool-proof design with a time tested lock, the lock-back.

I always take my E4 hiking/camping. I also carry my CF CalyIII, so I get super fine slicing from one, and asuper tough tank from the other. I love my spydies but many of these posts have me thinking about other knives.. you guys are a terrible influence.:p

One other sheathed folder that sees action during hunting season is my grohmann:

I really like the blade shape on that Grohman. What's it made of?

Again, nice photo.

my Leatherman wave (if you count it as a knife) has been going strong for 5 years.. it sees use as my edc, and has been on every trip with me....
I am also a big fan of the buck 112/110
I love opinels as well but find the tips can be fragile.

Emerson A100 is a hella good knife.

I also have been edc'n a SAK OH sentinel with a plain edge. Very impresed. Cool knife.

I really love my Wave, too. It goes with me on any hunting, biking or camping trip. It can save the day in a lot of ways. I wish it had a knife blade of premium steel. I think I remember seeing newer ones offered like that... or was it just wishful thinking?

I like Opinels, but they are way too fragile for me to consider them as a wilderness/survival knife. They are hard to beat for food prep and slicing ability. I had a #8 get wet once and I couldn't open it for a day do to the wood swelling up. I figured I'd give the joint area a dousing of Breakfree CLP to lube it and protect it from water the next time, but THAT swelled it back up again! :o

Try giving the end of the handle a firm tap on a table top. It ought to pop the tip out just enough that you can pinch the blade open. :)

Any folder I buy is a knife I would trust. I'd just be extra careful with the more delicate ones. Given that you can baton with an Opinel if you're careful and use the right technique, I'd say that just about any quality folder COULD be used effectively in a survival situation even if it wasn't the best tool for the job. ;)

Vic Farmer, Soldier, Rucksack. I also have a Manix-2 that I'd trust to hell and back (for anything I'd ever use a folder for). Also has a glassy-smooth action and locks up like it thinks it's a fixed blade.

I really appreciate the Strider frame locks. I traded into a more recent Spyderco Military, traded my old one (exactly the same except the old one had MILITARY stamped on the blade, the new one has jimping on the choil and the Spyderco spider stamped on the blade). The liner lock in my old Millie was much better than the new one. The new one isn't bad, just not as solid as my old one. Maybe its just me. My Sebenzas have solid locks. My Tidioute 73 Scout has great walk and talk, springs are great on that. Out of all of my Axis locks, my Ritter Grip is very reliable. Just got one of the new Victorinox Soldier OHT models, and it is very solid, much better than the German OHT issue I traded.

I really like how the Spyderco Military works for me on EDC tasks. For hunting, I typically add the Spyderco Impala with gut hook to my gear.

The main blade on the Charge TTi is S30V.

Thanks. That's the one I'm thinking of... It's similar to the Wave but with a few different versions offering different tool combinations. There's one with a blade of S30V and one with CPM 154.

Yep, and the Skeletool CX uses 154CM too, I think. But then you lose a lot of tools that make a multitool handy, IMO.

My EDC is a Benchmade assisted open D2 Stryker. I've carried it for almost three years now and I am fully convinced that it will hold it's place as my EDC folder for the rest of my life. This thing is bomb-proof. I'll be honest, I've abused the hell out of it and it's still going strong. I've used it for everything from prying open jammed humvee doors to turning rusted screws to dressing wild hog and holding up paper for target practice like it was a giant thumbtack. Haven't considered another folder since and don't think I'll ever need to.

?!?!? Holy Crap! You shoot at your knife?

If we're going to involve multitools, my favorite is the Victorinox Spirit. This is easily my most used and carried edc. The new Spirit X with a spearpoint knife blade would be even better.

I often carry it in an LM Surge pouch which also has room for my GEC #23 Pioneer.

I've gone through many a folder and the Buck 110 is my favorite. Nothing will ever replace that for me.

My grip or minigrip often make my fly fishing outings - light and reliable.

Desmobob, on another note, I sold my compound bow but am looking to go traditional. Any suggestions on a used longbow or recurve for sub$200?

Martin Hunters go for around that pricerange used on ebay. I love mine to bits.

Lot of big folders out there. Rumor has it there might be a larger version of Spyderco's new Manix2 coming down the line next year.

I have been EDCing a BM mini AFCK on and off for 10+ years. It's been a great blade... with a relatively weak liner lock though.

Even though I have nicer blades, I field dress all my deer with a first production run Gerber Gator, partially serrated edge.
