Follow up poll if you care about the factory edge of a knife

After a new knife purchase, do you immediately sharpen it yourself?

I only care that the factory edge is even, because that makes my subsequent sharpening and/or reprofiling easier and faster. I don't care one bit if the edge comes dull; it could be a butter knife for all I care, because I probably will sharpen it before carrying it for the first time.

Unless it's from a company that takes great care to set a beautiful edge without burning it, I find most factory edges to be low quality.

Not necessarily...so...technically #1.

I would think 100% of people care about the factory edge.

Brand new knife should be fully functional .

That means having a sharp edge , at least enough to work .

I've never had much of a problem from Cold Steel , Spyderco , or KAI .

Maybe I'm just lucky or not too fussy .

If I ever received a dull serrated blade , especially CS brand , I'd send it back . PITA to sharpen .

I started to gripe about no choice for sometimes, and then started thinking about all the factory new knives I've gotten lately and have to admit I sharpened them all. Even the Randall. So voted accordingly.

Once again, a poll is only as good as the answer options. I won't answer because I do not sharpen a new knife unless I need to. A dull knife, I'll sharpen. Off secondary bevels I'll leave until it needs sharpening. Obtuse secondary, I might thin out or leave depending on the intended use. Depending on price point, if the primary or secondaries are seriously wonky, I might send back. I don't think I have ever done this though.

You're option #1

What, pray do tell, is wrong with THIS poll?

I only dig out the stones: when a knife needs sharpening...
Whenever that happens to occur...
