You're option #1Once again, a poll is only as good as the answer options. I won't answer because I do not sharpen a new knife unless I need to. A dull knife, I'll sharpen. Off secondary bevels I'll leave until it needs sharpening. Obtuse secondary, I might thin out or leave depending on the intended use. Depending on price point, if the primary or secondaries are seriously wonky, I might send back. I don't think I have ever done this though.
I would think 100% of people care about the factory edge.

Right so "no" and "sometimes" or "it depends" are synonymous. Who knew?

Although, in hindsight, I see how more options would have been beneficial.
