Foo Foo Bitter Hoppy Micro Stuff and Beckers

Who's brown nuts are in there would be the important question.....

Tonight's (second) beer, opening by the Tactical Beer Opener BK-7; the first was a magnum of Terrible from Unibroue (not hoppy, but pretty foo-foo at 10.5% abv - no opener needed, it has a champagne type cork!):

Sam Smith's. Obviously.:p

I don't think I've had anything from Lagunitas, but I've had La Fin du Monde and Maudite by Unibroue.

Good stuff.

Do yourself a favor and find a bottle (or four) of Lagunitas Sucks. You can thank me later...:p

I'm partial to their Little Sumpin' - though I've not ever had a Lagunitas that I didn't like. The Terrible and the Brown Shugga are a little departure for me as I generally drink much hoppier brews. Founder's Dark Penance is in my beer cooler, as well as locally made Smuttynose Durty (a hoppy brown ale that is absolutely delish, IMO). I've had the La Fin Du Monde and I actually have a Maudite in the cooler as well. My biggest problem lately is trying something new out of the plethora of choices (we have 6 local breweries within 5 miles, (7 if you count Redhook and even more if you expand the radius to 10 miles) and I still have yet to fill my Beckerhead growler at the Tributary Brewery in Kittery, ME across the bridge....wait, that's 7 breweries. I never thought I'd say this, but there are too many choices, and not enough brain cells to kill.

You're right, anything Lagunitas brews is awesome but now that they're making Sucks all year round....

So close to all that (I'm assuming) good beer would put me under. It's going to be effing awesome that Stone brewery is building right here in Richmond. Opening day cannot come soon enough!

Were I you living where you do though, I would be making monthly trips to Waterbury, VT for the best beer in the world. I wanted to kill my brother-in-law when he went there last summer and got me exactly zero cans of HT.

Heady Topper isn't even available here, though you can get the "Best Beer in the World" - Kate the Great at the Portsmouth Brewery if you're lucky and your timing is good. Tod Mott, the brewer who made the recipe for Kate (as well as Harpoon's IPA and others) is right across the bridge at the Tributary, his first solo venture (he was the brewmaster at the Portsmouth brewery for years). Redhook brews all the Widmer beers and is contract brewing for Kona Brewing Company as well as making all the Redhook staples. This town is awash in suds....We have the Thirsty Moose Taphouse within walking distance of my house and they have ~120 beers on tap. If you were ever going to take a beercation, this would be the place. IT's terrible....bly great.

Kate the Great? Hmmm...just did a quick BA check and it is 100 also. I'd like to give that a try for sure - but a stout and an IPA are in two different leagues.

I've been aging some DH 120 since July of 2012. I think that will be my first beer with a Becker photo.

It's like y'all aren't even tryin'.

With this being yer only post, ya better not judge. And I gotta say, while that beer looks pretty foo-foo, it also looks....not to my liking. Chocolate stout? No doubt.....but the few vanilla beers I've tried were....I don't think I need to try anymore, let's say. But hey, you're the beer drinking professional.

Knocked out a new stand for my Craftsman.

We drank some Brown Shugga today at the shop. I prefer their Lil Sumpin.

Me too. But $32 for the case of Brown Shugga....that was my last one. At 9.5% ABV (or whatever the hell it is) it gets the job done pretty handy, and tastes OK. I do really like the Little Sump'n (Sump'n). The Lagunitas truck lives in town here - I see it all the time. Their regular IPA is pretty good, too. I bought a Smuttynose Durty 12-pack to save for the spring Gathering up at the Radeke Cabin....I hope I don't drink it before then. It's pretty damn tasty. Might have to get another.....

So this is what the evening of.....beer sampling has accomplished:

Behold: a Brute with an actual working edge....that actually cuts instead of merely scaring things to separate....

FINALLY!!!!!!

Though I started this thread, I felt like I couldn't post another cool-ass beer photo until I had my Becker. Well Sweet F.A., it's here - and here is my first real Becker & Beer photo...

This is the Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery Nuclear Nugget Imperial Honey IPA. Just a few miles done the road, LCCB puts out some great beer.

Cheers!
