Food & Traditional Knives

Our daughter and son-in-law came to visit us for 4 days 2 weeks ago. They flew in from St. Paul MN on a Friday evening with the main purpose of their visit to attend a 95th birthday celebration for my Dad the next day (although his birthday wasn't until a few days later). We went from the airport directly to Brewery Vivant, a local brewery/restaurant they like. I always order poutine when I'm there, and I always have plenty to bring home with me, since it includes an entire pound of French fries. Here's a pic of my box of leftovers.

For the next couple of times I made a meal for myself at home, I mixed some of the poutine into a variety of vegetables and ground turkey to make a delicious and nutritious nameless dish!

That looks good, Gary! Some years ago, my oldest son lived in Watertown, NY, north of us near the Canadian border. Poutine was offered in many of the local restaurants and was one of my favorite indulgences. It's not the healthiest thing you can eat, but dang is it good!
I like that Marble's Swinguard!

Thanks, Gary. :)
I'd never tried poutine until a couple of years ago. Not health food for sure, but first-class comfort food! 🤓
The Marble's is a cool knife. It has an extension that sticks out from the butt of the handle to hold the tip of the blade when closed. When the knife is open, the extension can be folded into the blade well to lock the blade.

Oh, OK! I got it. I've seen a few that had that extension. Interesting way to keep a big blade in a smaller handle. It probably cuts down on the weight, also. I like the scrimshaw on the handle.

A typical breakfast for me. I did have some yogurt too, that my wife insists I eat every morning!

We have grape vines growing on the chain link fence where an alley runs next to the back yard. We used to always leave town for vacation for the first two full weeks of August, and that often meant that most of the grapes ripened while we were gone. So we encouraged the neighbors to get as many as they wanted, and I'm sure human passers-by, birds, and squirrels got many of them. If we didn't leave for vacation until the 6th or 7th of August, I'd be able to harvest a bunch of the grapes myself.

Last year, we didn't leave town until mid-August, so I was planning to harvest the grapes before we left. But for whatever reason, we had virtually NO grapes last year. This year about half of the vines were producing grapes again, so I harvested what was ripe in early August. Here's what I came up with:

They look very similar to blueberries, but they're definitely grapes! I usually eat a scoop of them on my cereal or oatmeal each morning, and I probably only have enough left for another a day or two. Good while they lasted!
