For all you Spyderco fans!

Hey Charlie Mike!

I couldn't find that thread in Prac-Tac but I gotta know. What knife did you wave on that panhandler/bum? Been driving me crazy wondering which one of your beasts you waved on him. :)

Man that's a wicked tricked out BR Charlie. Beats throwing change in his greedy paws every time you're in the area. It beats - "just say no" LMAO

Sorry for the quick question guys....let the "to tat or not to tat," or "where to tat and where not to tat," converstaion continue. When I was in the USMC lot of those guys had serious tatoos. Big on the USMC emblems, slogans and of course the big old bull dog.

FWIW, my well-tattooed 19 YO nephew has been looking for a decent job for almost a year now in order to move out of momma's house and help support his gf and new baby. Visible tattoos DO make a difference, and it WILL haunt you. Plus, if you aspire to anything any kind of career beyond earning hourly wages, visible ink WILL put a strike against you right off the bat. Employers were more willing to overlook this type of thing when workers were scarce a couple of years ago, but now job seekers need every advantage they can get and this won't help you at all.

I'm sorry son, you sound like a good kid, but this was more of an "in your face" decision than a mature one.

Cool tatoo but I think I'd rather spend the 70 bones on a new blade. Just saying.

Happy Birthday SpydercO!

The OP is 18. I don't want to even THINK about some of the shit I did at 18. My first and only tat was when I was 18 and had a tad too much to drink on liberty in Honolulu, HI. EGA on the upper right arm, regretted it a couple of times, but then again regretted joining up for the Corps a few times as well. Now it's part of me (as is the Corps) and I don't give it much thought. Now retired from the crotch and relativlely successful in life (depending on how you define success) my only advice to the OP is "live and learn" (as we all have) and if you're happy with the tat, good-on-ya. I think everyone is just trying to look out for you, it's a pretty good community here. I wish people wouldn't judge others by their looks but the reality is, unfortunately, different. But man if that's the only "borderline-questionable" decision you make this 18th year of your life, you'll be ok. Happy B-day dude!!!!!! It only gets BETTER.

When I was a lot younger, I wanted a bear claw tatooed on my hand like that. Saw it in a movie where an Indian boy has some sort of special bond with the bears.

Anyway, in those days, you didn't have to be 18 and they were about $20 etc. So I got up some gumption and went to a parlor and the guy there was this really tough middle aged biker looking guy. He said something to the effect "hey kid, I love doing animal tracks and nature themes" or something like that. Then he said, "show me your other tatoos". I said I didn't have one.

He said he would not tatoo anybody's first tatoo on the hands, face, neck, or forearm...just wouldn't do it. He said, I'll do it on your shoulder or your butt and that's about it. Needless to say, I was taken aback and had to think it over...in the movie, whenever the Indian boy came across a bear, he held up his hand and the bear would settle down and protect him or whatever.

So fast forward about 35 years and I remain inkless. Knew a girl who had a rose tatooed right there on her hand and she was...let's say a "live entertainment professional"...and she hated that thing like a passion.

Good luck with it.

I am 36 and have 9 tattoos - regret none of them. However, I can cover my upper body tats with a polo shirt.

Few observations - while on vacation in Jamaica, every dude on the island offered me drugs that I did not want and on the way home I got all my luggage searched. I was on a corporate trip and the other 20 middle aged white dudes got less security love than me.

Second, I have been in management a long time and have not hired many folks for this issue. I would tell HR they had a CLM issue (Career Limiting Move). Face, neck, hands - you have made a decision to live outside the regular world. I can look freakier on the weekends if I want too, but M-F I am as white collar as it gets.

I never did get any USMC tattoos. 13 years after the fact and I'd still like to get one but would rather spend my money on knives. :D I do like the spyderco spyder tat though, I love spyderco knives. I have a buddy that owns a tattoo shop, it can't be that expensive.

Cool tat! I like the idea of the Spyder, but I would have put it on my shoulder or upper arm. I wouldn't have made the same choice, but I think it's completely unfair the way some are ripping on you. Oh well, I guess I'm not the judgemental type. I hope you love it and maybe use it as a conversation starter to get more people to buy quality knives!

Like I said earlier, just put a band aid on it for interviews. Maybe not a camo or spiderman band aid, just a normal one.

I've got a pile of ink...so long as you can wear a golf shirt without it showing, you can play whatever corporate role you want...I'd love to have sleeves but it's not practical if you want the easy road to make that paper.
