By no means am I any authority on the subject, as I've barely scratched the surface of what there is to know about Schrade. But recently I bought a Taylor brands 124UH and it came with a smaller sheath. Its virtually identical to the ones I have with my USA Schrades, just a bit smaller. Also of the 3 I have that came with my USA ones all 3 have completely different belt loops. 2 have "Schrade" embossed with the blacksmith and anvil silhouette, one just embossed Schrade. The one with just Schrade came with the one I got today, and from what I can understand of the serial numbers it dates to the early 80's. Somewhere else in another thread it mentioned in 2001 they moved the lockbar pin farther from the bolster, closer to the center. Of that's so the Uncle Henry marked LB7 and the 7OT I have date to 01-04. Those have the blacksmith sheaths. Not much help I guess lol.
Edit: I got out the Taylor sheath it has a black enameled button, all my USA ones looks like they are nickle plated. Also the embossed border line on the flap is more angular. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.

David, thanks for that information. I had noticed the same thing concerning the black enameled snaps. That may be the easiest way to determine that they were at least from the U.S. years. -Lance

Yeah.. you can get them in a smaller 9cm size too. Check Fontenille-Pataud's website in French & English. They are really efficient, short wait time and reasonable postal cost from on EU country to another... miksi ei?;)

How would you describe the locking action? They seem to be expensive, but compared to my other grail knife Al Mar Eagle classic reasonably so.

There is no play whatsoever, up down or side to side. Pull is very light as in all lock backs and the back lock itself can be a bit stiff to disengage, but it does not compromise handling in any way at all, one you have it in the hand. A very clever system that uses the spring as lock bar tab.

Myself, I prefer the small 9cm XS ones but the one you commented on is the bigger 10.5 cm a large enough knife for anybody's pocket. FP have a big range of handle materials and filework to choose from, also you can have the knife and blade in matte not just polished.

The one on the left is the Taylor brands sheath, black button, different border on the flap, slightly more squared on the bottom. Although this is the only example I have to go by.

Detail of the belt loops. Taylor on the left again. Of the 3 USA ones I believe the may show an evolution in cost cutting. Or maybe just different contractors, just speculating. The second from left came with the 1980's LB7, top of loop is sewn on then folded over then sewn at bottom. The one at far right came with the 01-04 Uncle Henry marked LB7, both ends just sewn on. Middle one came with the 7OT, again 01-04 pin pattern, but this knife has visible machine marks on the edges of the bolsters. Maybe last days rushing? This sheath also shows most cost/time saving method of just cutting slits into the sheath back.

One more pic with the knives and sheath together, note that the older one on the left is a little bit more square than the others, but not as square as the Taylor brands sheath.
Also want to add that the Taylor one is well made of good thick leather, equally as good as the others. As the brands been sold once again, now BTI tools, who knows where quality will go. Hoping they'll still produce good quality working knives into the future.

Thanks David, for that comparison. Mine is definitely like the one with the slits cut in the back. I appreciate you taking the time to show these. -Lance
