Photos For the love of Lockbacks! (Traditionals only)

One of my favorite traditional lock backs. Just gonna recycle this from the case/ bose thread. I like that it's a mid lock. Makes it easier to operate one handed.

I'm really liking that blue! They really are sweet look'n knives for sure. Do they make this pattern in a larger size?

Yes, they do. That's the reason for the strange name on my version.

The largest version is the Scout.
The mid size version is the Junior Scout.
The smallest version is the Boy Scout.

They also come in Stag, Mother of Pearl, various woods, and a few other materials. They are somewhat costly but well worth it in my opinion. Having one in your hand confirms that it was money well spent. Very nicely put together and smooth as silk. Even the lockbar disengages with just the right amount of force on both of my examples.

Heck, I might even get a Junior Scout one of these days.

Railsplitter Railsplitter thanks, having the model names helps with the search. As for being costly if there as nice in hand as they look, then it'll be worth it. Just put back a bit here and there, then treat myself to something very nice, ;)

Just a heads up, David. (or anybody that might shop around for one)

I've seen sellers list the Scout as a Boy Scout. The Boy Scout as a Scout, etc. Anyone shopping for one should get confirmation of the closed length or blade length before committing to a purchase. Additionally, without a size reference in the pictures, they all look the same.

This is good advice! (As usual, :))

I grabbed a Scout model in the red C-tek and it is a real handful. I kind of wish I had gotten a smaller one because the Scout (largest) is a real pocket hog (heavy for sure) and it doesn't come with a sheath. Lockup is rock solid and its a real looker tho. I have medium hands, the way the handle is shaped, larger hands might not fit so well. The bolsters kind of "canoe in" on the ends, which is great as long as your hand fits.

I carried the 501 for so many years that the wood is dished out slightly. My son heard me talk about retiring the Buck and he though I'd want something similar so he bought the BM small Summit for me. The modern take on the lockback is nice in some ways. I can adjust the the pivot and use the pocket clip. What I like most is the jimping, both at the base and near the tip. I find myself doing a lot of fine work and the ability to support the blade near the tip with the thumb or even the forefinger securely is a blessing. And what a nice, fine, sharp, strong tip it is!

Picked up this beauty off the bay. It was a Craftsman 5" lockback model (95089) that I didn't have before. I did notice the blade was full and had not been sharpened. It is marked Old Crafty on the blade so that puts it in the 1970's from what I can find. Could be made by Schrade or Camillus. The bolster is more square than the rest of my Craftsmans. I have posted a picture of a lot of my Craftsmans. Took a couple of hours to clean it up and put an edge on it.

Wow! You really cleaned that up nicely!

I rarely carry a lock-back these days, and I doubt I have many more than half a dozen traditional lock-backs left. Here's one which sometimes sees some winter coat-pocket time, EKA 88 in Normark clothing, had this one around 30 years

This thing is absolutely gorgeous. I definitely need to hunt one down.
