Forge Only (No Grind) Knife

Yeah scale is what I ment, First cup of coffee hadnt kicked in yet so moral of the story Dont drink and type.

I know that there is a bit of steel that needs to be done away with before you get to the "good steel" that will hold an edge. Decarb
scale on the other hand is the flaky oxidised crap that eats belts.

Wow that is a nice hawk!

Thanks for the kind words! For most of the time I've been into making knives and hawks my focus has been on what I can do with a hand held hammer. From what I started out doing to what I've been able to do now has been an adventure. Now that I think I know what I'm doing I still know there is more to learn. As most of you know I've taken a break from the hammer and have just been doing some small stock removal blades and I'm actually enjoying it but the satisfaction I got from forging is not there. Hopefully by the time its gets cold enough in the shop that I need to light up the forge to get warm I can get back into the swing of things.

Here's a few pictures of the last hawk I made in September or October.

thanks Tai... again.. awesome thread.

First thing monday morning, I'm forging a blade completely to shape.

I actually made the distinction between scale and decarb early on, in post #15. But, then again, my name isn't Tai Goo, so people may have missed it:)

I am a very big fan of Mr. Richard's forge work... very inspiring, Raymond.

Christoph Deringer is another big influence for me. Here is a progress pic of some of his pieces (sorry no finished pics)...

Nice look to that knife Rick. That look would do well on a small hawk with rawhide decorative wrap. I bet Chuck Burrows has an image of a sheath he would make for that knife.
Nice web page as well!
Your mark? I can't tell if it's stamped or etched but that looks great especially with the brown tone background.

John, I didn't miss it! :)

... just thought I needed to say it again. I wasn't sure if it was just a linguistic error or not.

Anyway,... I hope it makes sense now.
