Start the fire and make some knives to show in here. You are not going to become a knife maker setting at the computer all night and day.

Ahhh, Guinness... the beer you can chew. Have fun with that

You should have a friend videotape your first forgings, I want to see it if ya blow yourself up!

On top of making knives, I make beer also. I have a recipe for a "guinness" knock off that's pretty good. I started to experiment with it though. First I melted 6 lbs. of Hersheys Special Dark Chocolate and stirred it in before fermenting it. It was pretty good. Then I tried 6 lbs. of Tootsie Rolls. Even better than the Hersheys. Finally, I did the 6 lbs. of Tootsie Rolls, with 3 lbs. of crushed tart cherries. JACKPOT! I took two cases of the Cherry Chocolate Stout to a competition and finished 3rd out of 136 beers in the specialty category. Plus, after the judging, my two cases disappeared in about half an hour. It sounds nasty, but it's actually a great combination!

you have to make me up some and send it to me. i gotta try that. it sounds like a desert beer. sounds pretty good to be honest. IG is just too much of a pansy to try anything new.

i adjusted the burner to where i figured it should be set at. IG if it looks to rich let me know and ill be sure to adjust it down some more.

Jacob,

Congrats on getting the forge running. From the pics, it looks like you're getting plenty of heat from it. Now it's time to forge steel my man

thanks BBBBBBBBB Beaver.im going to work on the leaf springs tomorrow. its the only steel i have at the moment. im just going to anneal one piece at a time and flatten it out. going to have to use my pliers to get the metal out of the forge. cant get any rebar til sunday when i goto see mom.

I use square cross section stock (keystock) to make my tongs. I like have the square shape to begin with. Just my personal preference.

im going to end up using rebar on my tongs. i hope a 4lb and a 1lb sledge will do the trick. my cross peen has a cracking handle and is only one pound. i wouldnt trust it for hard blows.

one more pic of my forge fired up and at nite.

after i took the pics i talked to darren and he helped me bring the flame inside the forge for less scale buildup.

Sweet, I'm impressed man. You've done a lot of work in the last couple weeks, I admire that. You gonna make something resembling a knife one of these days? :D

im in the process. im starting on throwing knives til i get good at my tools. not going to mess with forging a blade til i have more money to pay for all the propane. its fun learning your forge. you should make one. i couldnt be any happier with mine. it heats evenly when warmed up. does what i need it to do and does it well.
