Forged In Fire

One of the competitors on the show used to work for Albion Armorers. I thought he was going to do pretty well and I was hoping he would but he went out in the first round. I think it was in the first season and I forget his name. I met all of them when I went to go visit my dad (he used to be their production manager) but that was a while ago.

The winners swords were asymmetrical and could be held in one hand. The bevels of each sword were on opposite sides so they laid flat against each other.

And he didn't sharpen the lower 1/3 of the blade just like the originals.

Here's a shot of the symmetry of Shayne's blades so they would fit in one sheath together.

Yeah, I thought so too, but I wish they'd do 3 tests again at the end. That Bison skull test was interesting.;)

And... as already mentioned, more background history on each maker (show last names) and possible pictures of prior work and contact info.

Best episode in all three years. While Liam was the winner, I still preferred, as an art knife collector more often than not, the workmanship done by Josh. Interesting to see that Liam was 19 and Josh was youngest ABS MS at age 19. Hope the next episodes continue to improve on this one too.

Agree that it would be nice to, again, have last names and also more background but likely this would require a longer show. Also, seeing work done in the past or info about websites, current work and other knife related things that might attract new collectors would be a plus.

All in all the whole program is something to be enjoyed by both collectosr and makers of the forged blade.

Good episode.

They really need to have some ice and water soaked towels these guys can put over their neck and shoulders to keep from getting over heated.

I enjoyed this show completely. VERY good final outcome, and the moment Liam's skull crushing khuri(?) split that thing in half, we knew it was an upset.

Props to Liam Hoffman!

Josh was VERY professional in all regards, and represents himself and us well. And, I loved hearing his comments and wit.

Liam is a fighter and no whooping and hollering needed. He just gets to work.

Jason and the staff crew are good.

Looking forward to more.

One of my favorite shows too. Really nice to see Josh and Liam working, getting after it. No BS or excuses.
Loved both of the final blades. Dozier (not Bob)

Great job by both and Liam is a superb 'Smith and has a great future making knives or whatever he decides to do. I know he's been at Tom Krein's place and they collaborated on a few knives.

I'm thinking that they were trading experience as Tom is one of the very best freehand blade grinders extant and Liam swings a hammer with the best of them.

Great to see Jason whacking on stuff, too.... ;)

I absolutely love this show and so does my wife. We watch it every week. I think it is one of the best shows on TV, but I am a knife guy.

I watched series 1, and have got down to the last episode of series 2. It's an interesting series and although I understand the need to introduce drama I believe it detracts from the craft and.

During the previous episode, the "kukri" challenge, when testing the blades, at the moment off impact the producer switched away to a static image. One therefore did not see the blade cut the cane, or pierce the barrel, etc.

Why on earth would they do this?

I also find it strange that they place so much emphasis on the oil quenching, but completely fail to address tempering?

If you read back further in the thread, tempering is done off camera overnight. My guess is because there's no fire involved, the temper is less sexy and the oil quench.

I keep reading there is too much drama in this show. Can someone give me an example?

*To losing knifemaker*

"Knifemaker X: Surrender your weapon..!" as he exits in shame.

I laugh at the solemnity and imposed drama, but it's TV. :)

For better or worse. I will be on Forged in Fire Oct. 4th. I just hope they positioned the cameras to get my good side.

Good luck on the show, I think that Nolan Wilder is also scheduled for that day. SHould be interesting.
