Excellent WIP and FANTASTIC knife Salem! Thank you for posting this especially with your 28.8K connection

John, Eric, thanks for the encouragement. I hold your opinions in high esteem. Eric, maybe when this one sells I'll be able to finally build my press. I've got all the parts pretty much chased down, except for hoses, a filter, and pressure relief valve. That stuff plus the necessary hardware is still going to cost a bit.

28.8 or no, you can bet I'll be posting my press build when it happens.

I'm a couple days late here Salem but WOW !

Great knife & WIP !

Impressive forging, fit & finish

Kudos to you buddy, Josh

Salem,

I'm always lurking, LOL

I've been laying low for awhile now and not really completing alot of knives although spending as much time as possible in the shop. Mostly getting my butt kicked by Mr. Hamon :)

I did get my greedy hands on John White's HT recipe book though and think I've narrowed my problem to OVER normalizing as the rest of my procedure is very similar to his.

Recently picked up a Boyar Schultz 612 manual surface grinder so I'm stoked about that. Still gotta wire it up, replace a spider and build a belt conversion but plan to have it complete and grinding within a month or so.

Built a forge awhile back so I'm now HOT in my own shop !!!! Got several hammers but still gotta get some good tongs.

Just made my first At Home Journeyman Smith performance knife to take to a local hammer-in this past weekend. Had alotta fun chopping 2x4's and cutting rope and putting some hard use on this knife before bending. It was great fun and there were alot of non-ABS folks in attendance who were quite amazed at the level of performance. I believe it would've been a passing blade even though the edge did crack but my trip towards JS performance testing will continue. I have a suspiscon that my cracked edge was more a product of a blade geometry that limited the flex to a 2" area of blade and not spreading the stress over enough of an area than a problem with HT.

Aside from those things I've been working on other skill building things such as hand finishing, and using my mill to get perfect guard fit on hidden tangs. Mainly these things haven't resulted in finished knives but I at least feel like my next ones are going to be head and shoulds above my previous knives.

Thats about it for the last year or there abouts

Take care buddy, Josh
