Fort Turner Forge = BAD

I ordered two hawks from H&B Forge, last month, and received them in two weeks. I had them make me a custom length handle, otherwise I would have had them sooner. Great communication and outstanding customer service. I highly recommend them.

I spent too much time in GBU, but maybe not enough....

The one common theme to a lot of these types of posts is paying up front.

I will never do it, learned that on here!

Thanks BF.

I've now been waiting 62 weeks and three days. About two months ago I finally received a reply from Dana which said I'd receive it "shortly".

Yeah ok.

Meanwhile. I've obtained FIVE tomahawks from H&B, three of which are wonderfully made custom pieces.

H&B Forge is my official tomahawk maker from now on.

I just went back to FT's website. Shipping has been updated to April 2014! He now says as of April 2014 shipping orders is "about 8 weeks out."

LUL wut?

I don't like it when people try to pre-pay me for a blade unmade; it's too scary. Soooo much better to show them the actual thing they are buying! Then everyone is happy, and anxiety isn't a factor for me or the buyer!

I suppose that fades over time as one's self-confidence and (hopefully good) reputation grow.

Just tuned in here and was seriously considering some hawks from Fort Turner, as they were well spoken of elsewhere(Elmore's site, I think)....anyway, just ordered a Shawnee Throwing hawk and a spike hawk from H&B...up to 12 week wait....which is fine....used AMEX, so if I get jacked over, I'll get my $$$ back....if this thread is still open, will report back either way.

Best Regards,

Well it's now been 85 WEEKS and still no tomahawk from Ft. Turner.

After I had waited ONE YEAR, I emailed him about the issue and was told he would send it to me "shortly".

That was over SEVEN MONTHS AGO.

So today I sent Ft Turner another email, giving him by the end of this month to send me what I paid for, or to give me a full refund.

My patience with Ft Turner has ended.

If I do not have either by December 1st, I will take it up with my credit card.

If that doesn't work, then I will take it up with possible litigation.

I've had enough of this crap.

There's a big difference between "about eight weeks" and NEARLY TWO YEARS.

I can under stand being burned, can really suck, but what I don't get is the people always saying I won't pay up front?

Don't know of how many knife makers on this site (Bladeforums) will ship a knife with out being paid first?

No knifemaker or craftsman should expect full prepayment for something yet to be made. A deposit to secure the order is fine. Final Payment in full should only be expected or made after item is made and is ready to ship. Reason being, this forum here is full of craftsmen who've taken full prepayment and delivered nothing or haven't kept their word as to promised completion of orders....or have such poor business and communication skills that they fail to notify customers of delays after pocketing that customers money. Afterwards it's like pulling teeth to be refunded by some of these "craftsmen".

I guess I can under stand that, but sure is a shame that not only are these type guys ruining their own name.
But it seams like they give all company's and makers some what of a black eye?

A few rotten apples spoil the bunch.
