Hi this is my entry, please let me know if the links work. The design is meant to facilitate two grips. The first grip is with your first three fingers in the holes and your thumb in the forward notch. The second is with your first two fingers in the last two holes and your thumb in the second notch.

here you go - instead of using the link button, use the picture button 3 spaces to the right on the edit bar.

Well here is my less than stellar entry. I am horrible at arts, but I think you will get the idea. I thought ok if you have the tin, more than likely you have a knife with you all ready. So my idea was to make a tool that you might not have. The end would be a can opener type end for the obvious. Put a fire striking steel spine with a nice edge, and a tanto style chisel tip for prying if needed. Chris you obviously have skills and will either use some ideas or just scrap it all together, but they are different ideas than the others, but not nearly polished and professional looking. Again I suck at arts and anything to do with painting, drawing, but you get the idea. Yes, I am over 5yrs old and can enter.
One knife without opener has a sheath with opener cut out. The chisel can be used to open actual cans. The other knife has the opener cut into the actual handle. I posted a computer drawing first which was horrible, drew it out which is still bad, but an improvement if you can believe that.

All I've got to say is that all these "tin knife" designs are beyond ass kicking awesome!!

Bill turned me onto this page last month and I have looking been checking things out.

What I had in mind doesn't close to what I have seen here. I thought I had a couple favorites picked out but that one from Josh is real nice. Maximum cutting edge while giving the user plenty of control with 3 fingers and the thumb. Interesting to see the outcome.

Awesome stuff guys! One thing to think about is the width on these. If we can keep it under 2" wide that would be awesome. 1 1/2" would be even better. Stock jumps up alot when you get wider bars. I havent heard from the third judge yet so Ill give him a little longer to get back with me. Lets say 7:00 PM cutoff EST. That will give the judges time to vote and me time to put up the poll. Couple hours left!

Well, I drew a handful of tin knives up while sitting around last night in the hotel before going to bed. I just got home and scanned them so I could post them on here. All the knives were drawn to just barely fit diagonally in the tin, but the size that shows up might not quite be right.

These first two should be able to use a three finger grip and I think the indent for the index finger would help out as far as grip goes too.

These next three would probably only be able to be used with two fingers, but give a bit more useable blade length. I put the swells at the back of the handle to hopefully help with getting a better grip with just two fingers.

I think they would all be fairly useful. You could drill different patterns in the handles so you could put a bit of paracord on them if you wanted to. I had a couple more drawn up, but they must have been left in the hotel room. OOPS!!

I drew those up on the little notepads from the hotel. If I need to I can get rid of the hotel name from the pics.

Been without a computer for two weeks, just got it back this afternoon. Just in time for this. Here's what I came up with. The scan didn't show up well, so used my daughters coloring pencils to add some color (with her input/help).

They all fit in diagonally, each square is 1/8"

Cool contest, and a lot of useable, interesting, out of the box designs and thinking. I like it.

I just checked my design, since it looks a litte thick, but its under 2 inches at its widest point

Cool Josh, I actually had one drawn that looked very similar to yours and Viks. Good job

as drawn, mine is 2.5" wide - but it actually wouldn't be difficult to redo at 2".
OTOH, I personally think 1.25" should be plenty wide enough for a tin knife.

quick question - Chris, do you have access to a mill? I have another idea, but it would be a stone be-yotch to do with drill press & files.

no mill Vik, you wanna sell one???????????

If by some stroke of luck. genius, or the sun happens to shine directly on my a-hole and one of these shit drawings is of any interest but you need me to decipher my chicken scratch or explain what in the hell you are looking at, send me a pm.

Rob

Alright, its closed!
The judges are Daniel Fairly, Bill Akers, and Moose over on the Becker Forum. They will come and pick the one they like the best and hopefully tell why. Ill take those three and put up a poll later tonight so everyone can vote for the best one. They might be watching the game so it might be a bit, maybe not!
