Forum rules?

Welcome Kent, Sincerely.
That being said, I'd like to chime in from a different angle, just to clarify.
Rules apply to ALL.
Services apply to those who pay for them.
Note the difference. Asking about price, and catch this, whether for a knife in particular
OR
a knife collection,
is a privilege of membership. It says so on the membership page.
Membership Has It's Privileges
That's not a rule. It's a service. Anyone may have access to this service by purchasing the right to do so. Everything else is moot. Why? Oh Why, Why, Why?
If you want to dance you have to pay the fiddler. It really doesn't get any more basic than that.

I thought this thread was done with, everybody walking away holding hands and happy.

Perhaps the mods have not seen the thread, although I bet they have now given the direction it has taken.

Seemed like a "teachable moment" to me. Maybe a mod will pop in there and say it's a violation, if it is. If it isn't, I have no clue what that rule really means. (And yes, the linked thread has really gotten weird. Why anyone would do business with that freak is beyond me).

Did you report the thread and ask the mods if it was a violation?

Nope - I'm more interested in the discussion.

We could discuss it until the cows come home and it wouldn't matter. If you think the mods are being inconsistent, you are going to have to press them on the subject...it is their call.

I'm not interested in the discussion. Ask me a hypothetical question and I'll give you a hypothetical answer. Seriously, if the problem is sufficiently abstruse, it isn't a problem. If it takes a discussion to decide, go ahead and enjoy the discussion, but making a judgement call on an uncertain situation doesn't help us solve the real problems we need to deal with.

Okay then...class in session.

1) Without a paid membership, dont ask about values.
2) If you think the later thread is in violation report it.
3) If that report results in no action, and you find that inconsistent, then feel free to press the mods on it further. (I wouldn't.)

Class dismissed! :D

Pretty simple questions - Is the OP in this thread a rules violation? Is the OP in the linked thread a rules violation? If the answers are different, what makes them so?

The OP is. Don't know about the other thread (report it to find out, if it stays it isn't, if it is locked it is, or it could be locked because of the racist content), what makes it so is a mod deciding it is so. How you interpret the rules is irrelevant. The truth is, we don't know what goes on behind the scenes and sometimes we just need to accept that.

Even if the nazi thread is against the rules I could easily see it being let stand because of the direction it has taken. We all learned about a maker most of us would never want to support and hopefully the OP can see that as well. Further, hopefully the OP will take the overwhelming advice of the community and support a maker here. Nothing but win going on there.

Is the OP in this thread a rules violation? Yes. That happened.
Is the OP in the linked thread a rules violation? No. Unless you haven't reported it...maybe the mods haven't looked at it!
If the answers are different, what makes them so? Ask Esav again. Maybe go to that original thread where Esav closed it, go to the last post, and use the report button to ask for clarification. :D

Seems like the same question keeps getting asked. Hmmm.
You have to have the appropriate membership level to ask knife prices, value, and worth. Now let's ask it again and see if the answer changes.

The point I'm trying to make is this - the rules aren't always clear. These two threads are good examples of the ambiguities that can arise. And, (this is the important part) accosting new members about their alleged failure to bother reading the rules, or following them if they did, is unfair and wrongheaded. If no one can easily answer the question: "is this against the rules," the rules should be clearer.

If you can't trust a Nazi, who can you trust?

HD, Kent started this thread, learned a valuable lesson, and he walked away respected for his actions, and rightfully so I'd say. It takes character to pick your battles, apologize, and move on.

The mods do an outstanding job in dealing with issues. If you feel a post is in violation report it, and move on.

Personally I think the OP of this thread should close it.
That would leave you with a couple of options. One, you can start a new thread with your grievances of accosting new guys and unfairness, or two, we can all get back to sharp and pointy things, which is why we're all here.

In a general sense (not necesarily here), when you ask for detailed clarification on rules, you get more rules. Nobody wants that.
