The rules don't always fit for every situation. It would be nice if they would but that is not going to be the case every time. That is why one of the reasons the mods are here. Sometimes they just have to make judgement calls.
I can not say that I agree with you often, but the above is quite the case. Modding here is not a big deal to me; there is no "power" trip, but it also is not easy to do a good job. Esav is a pleasure to work with and learn from. Yes judgement calls are made, I have and will make mistakes actively by taking action and passively by not and try to learn from them and overall continue to improve (not always in a straight line journey.) Sometimes I can be in a hurry and make a snap judgement that is off the mark. The goal never waivers though. I have spent more than a few decades in the knife community face to face with kids and real masters (not just the self proclaimed ones.) The goal is to have a community here that mirrors as close as possible what I see in real life at shows, hammer-ins and get togethers where people have fun, are of honest character and treat each-other with respect. On the internet the exact mirror really is not reproducable.
We just want to come close.
The rules here are guidelines but some are quite clear. The best I can offer is to look at what you post and how you treat people. If that is detremental to growing and supporting a community that might indicate trouble. If content and how people are treated is helping to build a community then no trouble should be expected.
The rest is pretty simple. People pay to support this site and the community that has evolved here as well as for the right to sell. Over the years we have seen many ways in which people with the intent to promote their wares or attempt to degrade this place have plyed their agenda on the backs of those who support this place and the mods have a task to prevent the back climbing as much as we can.
If you keep those few general things in mind the more specific rules might make a little more sense.
