well, its time to kill this thread. it took less than a day to become the most viewed and responded to thread on this part of the forum, thanks for the fun.

This can't be real. Do you not have any idea what you have done? This was a great looking M1 Garand, .30-06 caliber, 8 shot stripper clip fed, semi-automatic rifle. Approximate worth before alteration: $ 1,000 +. Worth now: $ 100.00. ??????????????????????

Good Lord, what were you thinking? My grandfather would roll over in his grave...
M1 Garand. .30-06. You'll need some clips, and definitely a manual. I think you'll discover it leaves a lot to be desired with the stock chopped off.
What's it worth? Very little, now. You might try getting another vintage stock, and selling it. I don't know what the current value is but that is/was a fine rifle.

M1 Garand Winchester $1000.00 - $1500.00 if all original and all proof marks
are readable.....hope it was not the original stock.

I think you should have waited for a reply before you hacked off the stock. I think it could've been worth a good bit due to it's age and great general state of repair.

OK I am no where near a gun expert as a mater of fact I have never fired a round but, even I know that was a Garrand. And to see the pictures of you mutilating the once nice rifle, it makes me sick.

Yes , you know how to make us sick !! IIRC the anchor/eagle shoulder patch was a commando unit.

A joke or not, I do feel a bit weezy.

But, in a sick way, it is kind of fun seeing someone wiz a grand+ away.

That has got to be the most foolish thing I have ever seen done to a M1, Not only was that a expensive family heirloom, But it is also one of the greatest
infantry rifles ever made, If I was your grandfather I'd kick ya in the arse.

Uh, I'm assuming that the overall length of the firearm ensures that it complies with ATF regulations? Don't see too many stockless rifles. . . .

Have fun shooting that atrocity -- wear a padded glove.

Holy crap man, those can go for well over $1000. Those things are some of the most badass guns ever made.

my god! please tell me this was a sick joke! you took a beatiful rifle that was a family heirloom cut the stock sanded or polished the metal . I personally wishyou would have let someone keep and care for the rifle until you realizedwhat you were going to do. however Its your rifle , If you wanted to ruin a piece of american and family history you certainly succeded. I know I have told my sons that If I dont think they will appreciate my firearms, knives etc after I'm gone I would rather they give them to someone who will. thanks to god they value fine machineryand metal work!!!!

so what do yall think of my cqc deer rifle? the finish was slighly rough feeling to the touch so i sanded it down and made it nice and shiny. great grand pa would be proud.

Grandpa would be beating your ass! You just ruined a highly valuable heirloom. That is an M1 Garand. It is considered the rifle that won WWII. What's your address? Cuz' I'm compelled to kick your ass for your Grandfather!

I think I'm going to be sick. I've wanted to get my hands on a WWII-era Garand for years and then I see this hack job.

Shame on you. :(

Edited to add that for someone who knows nothing about rifles you sure figured out how to field strip that thing pretty quick. That's not an easy feat on a Garand. If this is a joke then shame on you again. BTW, your grandfather was a translator in his unit as indicated by the "T" under his stripes. They were highly valued members of any unit.

You definitely lowered the value of that fine piece, however, you can buy a walnut replacement stock for around $150 or so, and recoup some of the value. It doesn't look like you damaged the parkerizing, and that's a plus.

I do feel slightly nauseous though.

RAAALLLPPPPHHHHHHH.

This has gotta be a joke. 180 grit sandpaper on the receiver? I think this guy's gotta be yanking our chain.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! This has to be a joke! It just has to be...

I would love to have the M1 Garand that my grandfather used in Italy during the war, ...and a Winchester M1?? Easily worth $1000...those type of things only lose value when "cleaned up"

Excuse me while I go strip the blueing off of my Case V-42 now....
