Four Inch USA-Made Stockman: The Ultimate Jackknife

Thanks to black mamba black mamba and his wonderful collection, the Cuban stockman has become my favorite pattern in this size range. Finally got my hands on one and it has almost entirely taken over my EDC rotation ever since.

I still have a soft spot for the Queen made large stockmans, especially the ones on D2 (love that steel), but never have found the right one for the right price to grab for myself. It’s on my list to pick up when the right one comes along though for sure.
The Buck BF 301 is also on list to try and get a hold of because I absolutely love that knife, and was just not around here on the porch at the right time to pick one up myself. My first knife ever was a Buck 301 that I still have. I need to get that knife out and get it back into the rotation for a bit.

Do you have a favorite?
Thanks, Joe, much appreciated. My hands down favorites are the bark ram's horn from 2007 and the red stag 440C from 2008.

I'm sure I couldn't tell the difference between them, but I think Lexan is GE's brand name for polycarbonate, which is a different compound than acrylic (according to chemists).

I did a web search for "Lexan" and got nothing but Acrylic results.
An a.i. search engine mistake? I have no clue.
Maybe the a.i. does not have in its programming (or education) that there is a difference between polycarbonates and acrylics? 🤔

Yes, AI is useless garbage that only knows what a bunch of ignorant young people who know nothing about anything before their time tells it.
That and of course it compiles whatever people have said on the internet that may not be true without having a way to verify.
If nobody on the internet is talking about lexan vs acrylic, your comment could be the only thing AI finds and would probably tell people that it's acrylic based on that because AI can't verify information from various proven non internet sources such as books like many knife collectors can.
I don't know how many people in the past year have shown up in BRL looking for a knife ID and having some completely wrong information they got from some kind of AI nonsense.

I tell ya AI is one of the worst thing ever, young people are going to loose the ability to do research on top of relying on a supposed information source that constantly gives them wrong answers.

I agree. a.i. makes accurate research more difficult.

I strongly advise against watching ai. written and moderated sci-fi vids on You Tube (8 of ten "HFY" (allegedly "human" narrated at a minimum) channels are 100% a.i. with zero "human" input/oversight or editing) where you have beings in the story with a facial expression that (quote) "is unREDable" ... (end quote) the wrong pronunciation of pretty much every words like "live", "wind", and "read" (two correct pronunciations based on context or tense) the a.i. uses the wrong pronunciation, not to mention simple common names mispronounced, reading punctuation (a period becomes "Dot" "..." is "Dot Dot Dot").

The real scary thing about a.i.?
In "real life" they are designing cars, and commercial trucks driven and controlled by autonomous a.i.
I heard autonomous commercial passenger aircraft designed for gate to gate travel, eliminating human pilots, are also in the works.
I understand that autonomous a.i. battle androids/robots, battle drones, and other weapons systems are being developed by the major militaries of the world.

Here’s a fantastic 1st gen Buck 301, made by Schrade in around 1966. Note it wasn’t yet called the 301, as no model number was assigned.

Three great things about it: the long pull, the fluted bolsters, and the large badge. Love these!🫡

My sentiments precisely!!

I don't think we've seen a yella 301 yet in this thread, so . . . .

Definitely an all time favorite! Never had one in Yellow… perhaps I’ll find one at the blade show in Sturbridge MA this Sunday. They typically have a nice vintage selection. Congrats Jeff!

Edit:
I understand from the BCCI material that they made about 5,000 of these between 1988-1990.

I suppose AI has its uses, but every time I think about AI, the first thing that pops into my brain is the first Terminator movie. AI got out of hand, and it didn't look like humans were having much fun.
And....... pics of a couple more nice, big stockmans:
