I found this Shirogorov mod 95 here on the forums for sale. I was really excited to get it. When I got it, it was not smooth and would not flip open. I took it apart to see if it needed cleaning. I cleaned it and reassembled and noticed that to center the blade you had to have a really tight pivot, which prevented it from flipping open. I contacted the seller Fourboysplus and he told me he would not give me a refund and take the knife back. I am attaching the whole email thread below minus my cell number. Only good thing is that he asked to be gifted and I refused and now I opened a paypal dispute. Do not deal with this guy, I don't know how he has good feedback.

His response:

I cannot offer a refund on a knife that was dead when it was shipped. All I can suggest is someone local help with assembly.

This knife was owned by to other USN:BF members whom also have excellent feedback as I do. Whom can all attest to its perfect action and centring.

When I opened it and tried to flip it, it was already not smooth. I didn't do anything in assembly but clean the dirt out. Are you going to refund me so I can send it back.

I sent it in flawless condition. To have a Shirogorov rubbing is insane. That just doesn't happen, they are always perfect. To be rubbing means you've done something in assembly.

Hi Chad,

Can I return this? Out of the box it was not flipping well, when you move the blade it was clearly rubbing. I can center the blade but it will not flip when centered, you have to loosen the pivot a lot.

If never had to "try" and make it center as it's always been that way. There are some great tips regarding hinderer centering that could be applied to the Shirogorov. Ive owned. 4 and they all been perfect.

Did you take it apart? I use Nano oil. It work very well. Some people don't like oil for washer and use grease. I also have Chris Reeve Grease I've used and it's excellent as well.

Just send me the payment and I the comments section refer to the knife make etc you are buying.

I can insure it however as mentioned the shipper doesn't accept responsibility once the items in enroute. That's the way it always is with knife buying/selling. Kinda a known thing that people abide by in the knife community.

Your going to LOVE this knife. Crazy action on it.

First of all Glad you made the wise choice and paid via GOODS.

The part that gets me is this,

I can insure it however as mentioned the shipper doesn't accept responsibility once the items in enroute. That's the way it always is with knife buying/selling. Kinda a known thing that people abide by in the knife community.

sorry friend but if I ship something I personally hold my self accountable until the buyer gets the knife and is 100% happy.

OP, I would take this as a learning experience and start making videos of you opening packages on High dollar items. Then there is no question as to what condition the knife was in when acquired!

Also after looking at the videos, either the knife is extremely messed up or you have no idea what your doing lol.

You disassembled the knife and now it is not centred. That is not my issue. I shipped it in 100% perfect condition.

I'm new to this whole thing. I really wanted this knife there is no reason for me to ask for a refund unless it was defective. I know how to put a knife together, I have a degree in mechanical engineering. This knife obviously had problems and you have to have the pivot super tight to have the blade centered. Problem with that is that it won't flip open and now the seller is saying its my responsibility that he shipped me a knife that was bad. I tried everything I could to keep it, including talking to the Shirogorov rep in the US. they told me I might have to pay for having it looked at so that is when I asked the seller to refund and he got this attitude.

Dude,

I would not ask for a refund if that knife flipped like that. I told you in the email that as soon as I opened it and tried to flip it, it was rubbing and wouldn't flip open fully. You told me to check my technique. I tried to see if I could fix it by cleaning it, when I put it back together it would not center and flip. if i left it loose and off center it would somewhat flip. I thought with your good reputation you would take back the knife and offer a refund but that was not the case.

I shipped the knife in perfect condition, blade centered and flipping like a rocket.

that is not true at all. it was centered but did not flip. you think I would want to disassemble a knife that flipped like a rocket? get real. It flips if you completely loosen the pivot

You took it apart!!! I can only say 100% it was flawless when shipped. Also you mentioned in your thread that you do "not have much knife experience" I cannot accept a knife in return based on what you've done, nor can I return it knowing it was in perfect condition when shipped.

So your now saying it WAS centered upon arrival, in previous emails you stated it wasnt?

Not sure what to say about the knife, but this is highly un-acceptable. To say this is a known thing and accepted by the knife community is total BS.

The true un-written code is that the deal is not done unless both parties are happy.

Looking at the Video that was just 1 flip, Could have been a lucky flip. Also OP was the pivot facing the same direction as the video he posted when you got it? Maybe this is a clue that he messed with the pivot to get it to flip for the video? I don't know I'm not a doctor but we will have to wait and see who paypal sides with. Pretty much a he said I said situation.

To be honest if you weren't satisfied at the onset it should have been stated that you wanted to return the knife at that point. If he would or wouldn't have agreed is unknown. But by your own admission it was centered before you took it apart and now it's not. You also stated that you are new to knives. Not saying you couldn't figure it out but something obviously happened during reassembly. It may be nothing or it could be a washer that's been damaged. If I were the seller I might have you return it for inspection and then if everything is fine refund or do a partial refund if something is messed up. Depending on the cost to repair and time and effort. I've never handled one of those but some flipper require some technique to them so it could have just been a learning curve, but I don't know. Hope you guys can work something out but in the future when a buyer says the knife is on you once it's shipped that might be something to note unless there is an agreed upon reason.

So your now saying it WAS centered upon arrival, in previous emails you stated it wasnt?

you know that it was not perfect and flipped like a rocket. Check your shady emails about not taking responsibility for shipping and other crap. I wanted to keep this knife but it was not working when arrived. Here is what I suspect. you tighten the crap out of the pivot so the blade would be centered for your pictures. yes the blade was centered but it couldn't be flipped. I first loosened the pivot to see if it would flip better, it did not. I then disassembled it to clean it hoping it would work. ( i did this so I wouldn't have to ask you for a refund). That didn't work, obviously there is something wrong with the knife, that is why you took $700 for it not the $900 you were asking. Man up and take the knife back, you knew something was wrong with this thing.

honestly I can't remember which way the pivot was facing. If it flipped like that, I would not be asking to return it.

The seller is responsible for making sure the package arrives safe and sound to its intended destination. You are on the hook until the person receives the item, that is when the responsibility ends for only the "shipping" aspect. If anyone doubts this, check with Paypal and their requirements and they will confirm.

Now, degrees in mechanical engineering are nice, but they do not directly and completely translate to knives. That is a pointless comment to make and has no bearing on this matter at all. We have rocket scientists that are part of the forums, and they don't all know how or care to disassemble and reassemble some knives correctly. Before the mods get all up in this, you both need to talk privately and get this issue resolved.

It's very common for people shipping across boarder to make sure the other party knows they are not responsible for lost/damaged goods.
