Fox River Magnum Passaround

Damn, I kept looking for Brian to post this and missed it!

I would have loved to get in on this one - I was preoccupied with the arrival of INFI yesterday and didn't look close enough.

Be watching for this one to post some results!

....You know there were "9" Kings of Men in Lord of the Rings....Nine is a good number...Beatles "Number Nine, Number Nine".... :)

oh man, I'd love to have EVERYONE in on this one. Since it's Tony's knife, we're trying to limit it so that it comes back in good shape and in a good time frame.

Thank you!
brett

I will leave it up to the rest of the guys involved, I would not mind 10 people in this pass around and I hear That Mike Stuart will be fixing up the knife after you nuts do your thing so I am not worried. When it comes to time frame, I will live, I am sure I can find a knife or two to hold me over.

Brett is running the show!

tonym, I wanted to say thanks as well.

I was always taught to treat other people's property better than my own so your's will be in great shape and care.

I've been eyeballing this and wanting since it showed up at W&SS with pics!

Enjoy bro, Its a big knife and BRKT makes tuff user knives, so don't be that gentle.

I've got one of the BRKT Lil' Nessies - that is one of the sharpest factory knives I have ever seen.

BRKT is some quality stuff.

The Fox River has been on my radar for awhile (I have to stop buying INFI for awhile) and that Magnum is just awesome looking.

I do appreciate the opportunity!

Okay, did the handoff to Mapper66 today in person on our hike.

This puppy is in motion!!!!

I like this knife. A lot. My total experience with Bark River blades you can see in the pic below; a new Bravo 1 and Mikro Canadian. I am a huge fan of the Scandi grind for bushcraft, think it will always be my favorite, but if I keep using blades like this I'm going to be a convex grind true believer.

Comparision pic in size btw the Bravo 1 and Fox River magnum:

Things I like about this blade:

The handle fits my hand very well. I have what I consider a medium sized hand, and really think the Bravo 1 handle a little too big. This Fox River is just right, and well proportioned and balanced with the blade.

Very well executed transition from the scales to the blade ricasso/choil area for me. Gets you right up there on your work better than most any of my blades.

Lack of the thumb ramp. I'm still undecided about that feature on the Bravo1.

Undecideds:

Not sure about the steel, have no experience with 12C27, but have heard good things about it (for a stainless :D). Offer it in A2 and I'm all over it!

Blade length. At 5", would be an inch longer than any of my other bushcraft specific blades. Got a Koster Bushmaster on the way, so that will give me chance to see if a 5 incher works well for me. I do appreciate the extra blade length when batoning.

Just a pic of some various cuts I was making.

tonym, thank you for putting this out there for us to try. One of the best things about the forums is getting the chance to try different blades and also learn from others on passarounds.

Ok Brett, off to OKC tomorrow!

sweet!

I got my fox river tonight so I can do some comparison stuff.

I'm SO freaking excited about this one!

thanks,
brett

Cool Brett. That is the one thing that was going through my mind was, sounds like I need a Fox River, maybe not the magnum. Looking forward to your comparisons.

rescueriley gifted me the fox river. He's such a great guy. You can buy a fox river, but you can't have mine....:)
