Let me start by telling you that I’m a knife appreciator not a collector. I carry what I can afford for me that is one of two Kershaw blades that I strop and give love to all of the time. After seeing a review video of the Medford knife & tool praetorian. I fell in love. On about the third video I saw what is known as a clone knife my heart skipped a beat.

I could own a replica of this $600 dollar knife for $25 now I needed one I searched YouTube for praetorian clone stumbled across a video by Gregg Medford explaining that clone means stolen nock offs. And how they hurt authentic companies. At the end of the video Gregg talked about how small changes can make a big difference. I came back down to earth.

I couldn’t buy one of these stolen knifes. But I could steal one. I dug into the user agreement on alibaba.com. Everything I found said that the site would not allow counterfeit good to be sold. And if the Buyer challenged the authenticity the seller would have 3 days to provide documents to prove authenticity or give a full refund.

Here is where the fun begins. I start shopping for counterfeit knifes and picked out 3 a “Chris Reevs Sebenza” the “zero tolerance 0770” and that “praetorian” that I couldn’t get out of my mind. A few weeks later I receive two packages. The “zt” and the “sebenza” are in my hand the “ZT” is a turd of a knockoff. I compare it to my Kershaw link and it doesn’t stand a chance. The “small Sebenza” is a fun little knife to play with. The reel one must be amazing.

Now to test the system I wait 3 days and send the sellers a message saying I went to a certified dealer and the knifes were counterfeit. I told the sellers I would not send the knife back and I wanted a full refund boom the 16.75 from the “sebenza” guy is back in my account. Now I have liberated a knife from a foreign country and it didn’t cost me a thing it’s exciting.

The “ZT” guy was not as easy. I had to show him the sites policy on counterfeit goods and escalate my complaint to the Case Management team who awarded me a full refund. $30.40 back in my account.
The praetorian never came because the seller canceled on me and told me that the knife was a fake.

The sellers change their story wen they know you are going to hold them to there word. Now I’m left with what to do with the twice stolen knifes I cant keep them and feel good looking at my self in the mirror so I propose this. Steal a counterfeit knife fight these guys. They are allover alibaba.com and EBay. After you beat these guys at there own game gather your liberated knifes and a hammer smash a clone and post the pictures hear.

The truth of the mater if people disputed these purchases the profit margin would disappear. It would also force the websites to take a stand on the issue. We the knife enthusiasts could fix this problem for the company’s we are so passionate about.

If i Could figure out how to post my picture i would. i also screen shot the dispute process if that would help you.

Neat way to stick it to them!! I have been tempted by those higher quality kevin johns from time to time but meh, I'd rather dish out for the real thing. Glad it worked out for you! Funny that they got in touch with the other seller and he canceld the order lol

Oh, yeah. At first I was like "this is way too long, no way am i reading this" but then I saw the not so pleasant comments that echoed my thoughts and figured I'd give it a go.

Two wrongs don't make a right. This behavior is no better than the knockoff artist's. It's not "stolen",you liberated nothing, but you did steal three knives. They are knockoffs from a country with lax/no laws against such activity. The correct thing would do would be not buy them. You went out of your way to exploit a system and lied to commit fraud. I don't understand what part of any of this makes you think you did a "good thing". It's abhorrent and sad in general.

Great story brah.

There are plenty of great knives that you can get on any budget without going the clone or counterfeit route.

Stealing is stealing. Thanks for the heads up.

is it stealing to hold them to thier own policy? Maybe deceptive, but not stealing. I get your point though

Ill pass on any dealings with counterfeitters and companies selling them.
Scamming to get a garbage knife to smash it with a hammer? Get a hoby bro.

Is it considered stealing when cops confiscate a guys drugs? Maybe the guy isnt from this country, and drugs may not be illegal where the guy came from and then the cops "stole" them because they are illegal here. While my analogy may be a bit crude, I feel this is the same principle. I do see where the immorality comes into play if you were to buy one of the clones, keep it to use and then ask for a refund. But if you buy it with intent to get rid of the counterfeit then I think this is a potential way to curb imitation ripoffs.

I don't get how he "lied to commit fraud". The companies selling the fakes are the ones committing fraud and this guy just beat them at their own game.
