Freeman 451 Flipper Available

True enough. I can't quite tell what it is. Thought it might have been a blasted thing, but it doesn't have the texture. I do like it though and it has been wearing very well. Maybe it's just a gray cerakote?

He has been using cerakote for the blade, anodizing for the handles. Years ago he cerakoted everything, but found the aluminum doesn't keep it as well as the anodizing.

Also remember everyone, look inside the handles for a surprise engraving that Jeff puts in, really a cool touch.

Update on this; just got the 451 in today!

Solid knife, no play to it when locked up at all. It's my first button lock, and I'm liking it quite a bit. The biggest thing I noticed was the solid "thunk" that the blade makes on flipping, so unlike any frame/liner lock.

Two guesses. I bet it’s the smoothest opening and closing knife you have and if not the sharpest knife that you’ve received from the factory definitely in the top 2.

It's a different feeling flipper. Very smooth, but in a different way than my bearing frame lock ZT's, or my Teflon washer Hinderer. I like it so far.
I plan to see how it goes as a heavy duty edc for a while.

Looks like we share the same preferences with this knife configuration. I love mine. Smoothest knife I have and great looking, too.

Damn that is a good looking knife. I was on their site looking around, but the pic they had of the CF handle didn't look as good as it does here. Probably their pic lol, but hey, it looks better here :D

I sure appear to be in the minority about this knife. I agree that the action is good, and the ergonomics were fantastic, but...

The knife doesn't cut. It's ground incredibly thick at the edge (probably more than .040" thick) with an obtuse edge angle, a very obtuse primary grind angle, and those scallops in the primary grind. During my time owning one, I couldn't get around the fact that my Benchmade Adamas cut better than the 451 flipper.

That, combined with the idea of having a super rugged blade mated with teeny tiny caged ball bearings, makes this knife a curiosity to me. It seems like it's popular because of the admittedly great action, but shouldn't the knife work well... as a cutting tool? And if you're aiming to make the knife as rugged as the blade is, it probably shouldn't use tiny bearings like it does.

@Banter 247 made this video. He can give you a synopsis of it.

Basically it says a thicker knife is not going to cut as well as a thinner knife. And if your cutting paper any knife will cut, cause your just apex cutting.
Yep. I'm sure he thinks his knife cuts incredibly well because it's sharp. That might be true, but it doesn't mean it doesn't have the cutting geometry of the corner of a brick.

I cut rope, cardboard, wood, etc. It works fine for me. I have other knives that have much thinner, flat grinds, so I'm aware of cutting geometry. But my Freeman 451 does everything I ask of it no problem.

I'm sure it cuts things if you push hard enough. I'm just saying it has worse cutting geometry than a Benchmade Adamas, a famously bad cutting tool. It does everything you ask of it, but what if you ask it to cut something where the geometry matters?

Compared to other, thinner knives, the 451 wedges into cutting media. It also is an absolute bitch to reprofile, due to how much steel is behind the edge (especially with the S35VN version).

You can make a piece of rebar "cut like a laser" if you don't cut anything where geometry matters.
