Friends of A. G. Russell

I thought it was pretty friggin cool to get a friend request from a legend in the cutlery business.
Thanks!

This very thought is exactly what had immediately occurred to me as well when my email message chimed in across from A.G. a day or so ago... In fact, as it happened, my kids and I were having a suppertime discussion at that particular moment, and I had just asked if they needed any new knives for Christmas this year again?.... My email chimed in at the very same second, and, with what was an ear-to-ear-grin, I said, "speak of the devil--AG Russel just sent me a friend request on BF"... My kids went right into a chorus of, "Yeaa Right!." and "No Waay!"... Bear in mind that both my Son and my Daughter just love going through and ordering knives from the, "A.G. Russell Knives" Catalog... Especially when it is the 'Winter' edition or 'Christmas Special' edition, because you see they both know they get to order on they're Dear ole Daddy's Dime for the holidays. :)... A fine tradition I just started three or so years back for an extra Christmas treat for my youngsters and I to enjoy to go along with arrival of the hunting seasons and to generally have some fun!..

So you see for many years I have always considered A.G. Russell a friend to be certain.. And I am just tickled, and frankly quite honored that he chose to invite me on a friend request here on Blade Forums and document same.. He is good Folk to be sure..!

Way back in the days before I even had kids I always got a big kick out of ordering cool sharp cutlery from A.G... Now My kids are approaching college age and I still get that same big ole thrill from ordering and receiving world class, "A.G. Russell KNIVES" cutlery and service!.

Merry Christmas & Many Blessings all season long to everyone here on BF!

Best,

Anthony

AG, I think I have friends here, I haven't looked lately and nobody has made a request lately. I haven't really been around much.

As far as you are concerned, you are a legend in my mind. Your's were some of the first knife catalogs I ever received, I'm pretty sure I still have everyone you sent me. I thought the photography was outstanding and the copy brilliant. When I got my first computer yours was probably one fo the first websites I went to. Yes, I've ordered knives from your catalogs, online and bought knives from your tables at Blade Show. I think it was Blade Show 2003 my friend PJ Tomes introduced me to you and Goldie. I put the time I spent talking to you as an honor and an education.

As far as price goes, I know the knives I bought from your company I couldn't get from anyone else. Besides your print catalogs and your outstanding website I think the customer service you're famous for is worth more than money. I pity the person that shops only by the cheapest price. They think price and don't understand value.

Please keep doing what you're doing.

Your friend,

Phil

Although I haven't seen one in years, it's always been a pleasure to see the catalog in the mail amongst the bills and appeals for money. More often than not, it would be a tattered and well worn AGRussell catalog that would finally find it's way to the recycle bin.

I would be pleased to count you among my friends here at BFC!

A.G., I was honored to be asked to approve your friend request.

I worked in, and helped supervise, a customer service department for seven years. The service your store provides - online, by phone, by mail, etc. - has been nothing short of exemplary. I've been a fan of your company since i saw the first catalog, and my wife & son love your knives too.

Thanks, and have a great holiday! :)

~Chris (and Norma & Elias too)

Don't think I can really add to what everyone else has said, but it merits repeating - an honor and privilege sir.

AKC,

give me your name and address and I will see that you get a copy of the latest. any purchase will get you 11-12 a year for 3 years.

I have learned so much from this thread, moving it to community pretty well killed it but, BUT, it led me to learn that watching the profile tells yoou what each of your friends is posting and where AND, because of it I learned of the Subscription file which shows every thread that I have ever subscribed to. Wonderful things.

I am really surprised at how many of my friends are not paid subscribers to BFC $10 a year seems little enough for being able to talk to people like you. It would thrill me if all of my friends that are now now members would become Gold members this new years.

Thanks for being my friend

A. G.

Thanks for the invite, AG. I've been a fan and a customer for more years than I care to say and I've NEVER been disappointed in any way, shape or form, whether it was a product or just a simple piece of advice I've read here. I can't think of anyone I'd rather call friend than you.

Do I want to be a friend to A.G. Russell? Talk about a no-brainer! I'm not even sure what being an official friend online means, never had one before. Most likely won't have another, and if I could only have one official online friend in this lifetime, can't think of anyone else I would rather have. Made my day. God bless you and your wife, A.G., with all happiness and satisfaction. C.O. (Charley) Fines

Natch,

I am hoping that many of my friends who know each other will become friends as well and that those who know no one else will begin to seek friend ship with my other friends.

If you go to "My Profile" right next to where you sign in to BF you will be able to see every post in all BF threads where youir friends post. Very interesting to see what your friends are doing.

Thank you for youir kind wishes, may God bless you and yours and all of my friends.

A. G.

AG,

Friend request sent, I only live a couple of miles from your store and try to stop by often.

One of my favorite EDC fixed blades is an AG Russel Woodswalker. It's just a grand little knife that's not overbuilt, or a nuisance to carry in the least bit, and while no super steel by today's standards the AUS-8 can get scary sharp and is capable of decent edge retention and has become one of my favorite blade steels. I also am very appreciative of the friend request and glad that Mr. Russel has taken an interest in the consumer, unlike many others in the cutlery world.

A.G I was extremely grateful of receiving your request. I think that your knives are great-otherwise I wouldnt say so, also I think that the way you hold yourself here in the forums is very commendable, and its a huge benefit for all to have someone like yourself who has the experience and the knowledge that you kindly share.
Thanks A.G

I am visiting my Uncle in Springdale Arkansas this week and drove by AG Russell yesterday. Today I stopped by and my father and I bought a couple of knives. Great store and great staff the best really. I can't say enough about them there I can be a pest but they helped me for the entire hour I browsed the store. I am happy to support such a great American business. Mr. Russell I sent you a message.

Thank you for the friend invite, AG. To be honest, I was surprised and touched to receive it. Ever since I started collecting, I've seen you as a pillar in the industry as well as man after my own heart regarding his outlook on life. Thank you for all you've done in this business.

Quick funny - the first time I received "Russell's for Men", my wife got all suspicious wondering what I was reading. Now she's a fan too, so another thank you for providing printed catalogs that are...well... masculine but not vile.

Bless you sir and be well this Christmas season.

Steve

In all the time I have been part of Blade Forums, perhaps a dozen people have asked to be my friend. Once I was able to understand how to go aboout accepting I did, of course, then thought no more of it.

A couple of nights ago I was rereading the 2008'2009 thread "What is it with A. G. Russell?" in which I was attacked for having higher prices than some other knife dealers. After reading about 15 of the 31 pages, it occurred to me that these people defending me were my friends and that I should tell them that I recognized them as such. After asking the 130-140 posters in that thread, I moved on to other, more recent threads and looking for any one who spoke highly of my knives or of myself and asking them to be my friends.

Would any member of Blade Forums who feels friendly toward me, my business, or my line of knives please save me hours of searching and go to my profile and ask to be my friend?

I do not yet know how to interact with my friends on BF, but, over the next few months I will learn.

Thank all of you, those of you who comply with this and those who don't for being and having been my friends.

A. G. Russell, A. G. to my friends

Aloha Mr. Russell,

I recall reading this post, but could not chime in as I don't know you, nor do I know the person who posted. I could go into my thoughts on what drives the price of a particular item or service, but this is neither the time nor the place. What I will say is that from reading this thread I can tell that you took the other thread to heart, something not a lot of people do now-a-days. I can also tell by reading the responses here that to those who call you "friend" it is an honor. It's wonderful to see that the world still has people who consist of humility and substance, and that know the definition of friend.

Friend request accepted!

I've been a long-time fan of yours (20+ years), as I used to live in Eureka Springs and made it over to the shop off of highway 71, back in the day. I would go along with my mother shopping on a Saturday (monthly trip to Sams Club!), just to be able to stop by for a few minutes on the return trip. Bought my first quality knife there (lockback with damascus blade and Quince burl handles). and buy at least one knife a year, lately, sometimes 2.

Your catalogs are one of the only reading material that make it into my carry-on bag, and have kept me sane on many long flights, and take up a respected position in the "reading room" at home. :D

Thanks for your heartfelt words for those whom you deem worthy of friendship. You're definitely one of the good ones!

Thank you for the friends request, Mr. Russell. I really appreciate it and gladly accepted.
