FRN or G10 handles on Spydie ?

So funny to see this thread revived as I had been reading it just last week trying to decide on a dragonfly in g10 or frn. This thread actually pushed me to go frn and I'm really glad that I did! From looking at pictures of it, I actually assumed that I'd handle it, not like the feel and end up sending it back. In reality, it feels like real quality to me. It also feels super rigid and I haven't noticed any flex even when trying to flex it.

I have on knife in g10 (most of mine are wood or micarta) and I actually prefer the frn. Another poster claimed that you really need to handle one to understand and I totally agree!

If G10 is so much heavier and more expensive than FRN, how come the Kershaw Skyline is lighter and cheaper than the Spyderco Delica?

G10 all the way but FRN is also nice on cheaper knives when weight is the main concern.

Although the FRN looks cheap, I can't deny that it provides pretty great grip on spyderco Enuff. This is my only example of the stuff. I wouldn't mind some custom g10 scales though.

My last two Spydies have G10 (Native 5 and Kiwi 4). Like them. To me it was an upgrade from FRN. But I have no problem with FRN handles on their folders. I can honestly say that I generally do not like plastic handles on fixed blades unless it is a low cost blade like a Mora.

FRN isn't a deal breaker for me.

Given the choice , if a knife was offered in both with a slight price differance, I would take G10.

Right now I am debating putting G10 on my waved Matriarch 2, my usual back pocket knife.

Hard call for me to make. The FRN is perfectly fine in use, the G10 would just be "pimping" with next to no real gain in performance.

Polymers are good enough for my pistols and rifles and they have proven to be more than good enough in my knives and tools.

I thought I was a G10 guy, but I guess not. My 'Spydies.'

Then why is the Delica in G10 heavier than the standard FRN Delica?

Comparing the Skyline and Delica, they are completely different designs with different locks. Had they built the Delica to be as thin and light as the Skyline, it would be too flimsy for a 3 inch blade nested liner lockback. Likewise, if you thicken the Skyline's liner lock to be as wide as the Delica's lockback spring, AND thicken its G10 to match the Delica's FRN, it would be much wider and heavier than the Delica.

As far as cost comparisons, there are $5 gas station knives and customs up to the thousands that have G10. Why are they cheaper or more expensive than the Delica? :)

I see Zero advantage for FRN vs G10.

I would assume it's cheaper to manufacture, and is obviously strong enough to do the job.

With that said, I have never held a knife that was FRN that would not have been much better in G10.

Variety.

I have and enjoy both. They each have a different feel. It would be boring if G10 was the only handle material option.

I think both materials have their advantages. I've noticed That g10 can become slippery after a lot of use. It almost gets this polished look to it. I've had to gently sand the Scales on my PM2 to reintroduce grippyness a couple times.

This hasn't been an issue with the FRN. It's always extremely grippy.

I agree with the person above, variety is the spice of life. :)

FRN can't be that much cheaper than G10. What would a $34 Tenacious cost if it were FRN? Come on Spyderco let's see your flagship Delica / Endura with some G10.
