FRN or G10 handles on Spydie ?

Yes Delica/Endura is slated for another run in G10.

No ETA but being in the queue and verified by Sal is a good sign.

I see Zero advantage for FRN vs G10.

I would assume it's cheaper to manufacture, and is obviously strong enough to do the job.

With that said, I have never held a knife that was FRN that would not have been much better in G10.

Well if it's zero then it wouldn't exist and sell. Different strokes.

Also, it is not cheaper to manufacture at least at first. FRN molds can cost from 5 to 25k depending on country and company making them so there's even more of a disadvntage for you ;). Most recent example is the New Spyderco Stretch.... Before committing to a mold, the first run will be in G10 to test it out with the public first. There obviously is a market for them, just let it be.

And yes folks it is ok to like both. It is even ok to like Ti, G10, AND FRN at the same time:eek: You can even add classic materials and CF. All good.

The G10 Scales are in stock right this second on BladeHQ....
You are right, g10 handles are in stock. My point is Spyderco should manufacturer the Delica / Endura at a reasonable price. But who am I to tell Sal / Eric how to run their business. They seem to do pretty well without my input.

They already do that...

I'd buy the G10 scales, but I lack the mechanical aptitude to take the Delica apart, put the new scales on, and then reassemble it without screwing it up.

The answer to the G10 vs FRN question is YES! I purchased Endura and Delica in G10 and have since let both go. I prefer both in FRN for lightness and overall ergos. I have Milis and Paras in G10 and can't imagine them in FRN. The brown truck just brought my 2015 forum lightweight native and it will be interesting to try it vs. my 2013 G10 native forum knife. There's nearly an ounce of weight diff and that can make a big difference in light weight summer wear. The offset to that is the absolute solidity of the G10 with steel liners.

You are a wise man. Not knowing your limitations has been the demise of legions of men.

What does volcano design mean?
Klaatu... Barata... N(sneezes)

to clarify, Volcano grip was the term for the waffle-shaped grip on Spyderco FRN knives. The newer models have a more radiused layout of raised parts with angles designed to improve grips, but I think it might still be called Volcano grip. The salt series was using the old Volcano grip for some time, but I'm not sure whether the current Salt FRN bknives have a grid or more radiused pattern. Anyway, it's pretty grippy and usually not too fatiguing (I think it's a little rough feeling on the LW Manix 2 models where the lock often requires a bit more pressure to operate and it is a bit uncomfortable on the Maxamet model I have).

Apologies for the zombie thread - I hate leaving questions unanswered.

Despite necropathy, I shall participate.

I prefer Micarta, CF, and Wood to either. However, they have their places. FRN's primary advantage is weight savings. I like to describe Spyderco's FRN as sinewy. Strong yet flexible.

I own one FRN knife, the PM3 Spy27 lightweight, and love it.

G-10 is generally too rough IMO, and so I only have one knife with it. Everything else has the scales replaced with Micarta or wood. Don't like Ti either, and only like aluminum in automatics.

Me too.

I like Spyderco's FRN better than their G10 because the FRN:

1. doesn't wear pants material as easily
2. is lighter
3. can be beaten to hell without me feeling bad or caring too much
4. provides better grip

Yes, I believe that FRN provides better grip, but specifically because of Spyderco's bi-directional FRN texturing

image.jpg I thought about getting some after market carbon fiber scales which I still might do but what’s not to love it’s a knife
