FRN Police: Spyderco wants to hear your opinion.

YES! (he types emphatically)

I'd really like to see one with the dark blue FRN handles and the Calypso style clip oriented for tip-down configuration; with the clip mounted fairly high so as to position the knife for a relatively "low ride" in the pocket.

I believe that there are people out there that would like to buy a Police model, but consider the original model to be cost-prohibitive.

I know two Police officers locally who would each buy one. They currently carry FRN Endura's but much prefer the Police model styling and design. I would definitely buy one; and probably one in each blade style offered.

An excellent idea, I think.

I would go for it if it is possible to put a liner in there on the clip side. dont know about FRN and liners though, now that I think of it there arnt any knives with that mix are there?

The Police is a flagship model, it shouldn't be offered in an incarnation that is equated with "price-point" designs. NO!

since this topic appears to be alive again for god knows what reason... i'll throw my vote in.
FRN Dark Blue or Black, plainedge, clip=endura/delica/native/merlin style

If Spyderco make a VG10, FRN handled Police, I'll buy one, whatever the color.
My choice would be dark blue with reversable clip.
My dream would be a VG10 blade, compression lock, G10 scales, cobra hood and black blade. Then I would buy ten !!!;)

Although I am a fan of the Police model (I have two: an aluminum & a Blanchard.) and would probably buy a FRN version, I'd rather see the slot reserved for a totally new model. As others have said, the Endura fills the niche for a lightweight FRN model with a ~ 4" blade. In addition, with a blade length slightly less than 4", the Endura is probably legal for carry in a lot more places than the Police.

Nevertheless, if it is to be made, please make it in dark blue or OD green and keep it as a tip down model.

Blue handle
Plain edge
Reversible screws like the Calypso Jr.
A different texture would be nice (like the Native)
Thong hole please.

I will also put in my two cents for a larger hawkbill,(Not a Matriarch) with a similar handle in COLORS. I think it would be more "friendly" and look like a utility knife.

I also just got a full-size Military and want a Jr. to go with it.

I like it! Especially with:
VG-10, black or deep blue handles (but not in a flashy color), with optional tip up or down carry.

Another person that distrusts the FRN. It feels frail and slippery (compared to G-10).

Make a Gunting with a four inch blade instead.

Save the SKU for something other then the Police model. I have a Police and Endura and like both as is (other then wishing for left handed models).

My only suggestion (already mentioned by another) is to have a different clip like Calypso (Jr) style if Spyderco does decide to roll with a new Police model.

Is there really a need since the Endura is so close to the Police? I'd rather see Spyderco go in a different direction and offer some models that are totally different than anyting else in the line. Especially something with a straighter handle.

I would like to see it in blue w/a 50/50 edge. I think it would sell to people who would want the police but not the police price. The FRN Endura is plenty strong. The Police has a different handle and blade profile as opposed to the Endura.

My two cents.

Ben

I think the Endura has this slot covered, and covered well. Now, a Military Jr. is a knife that I would like to see. Save the slot.

I am not too keen on the idea. I too think that it would be too similar to the Endura, to the average ELU, and I would like to see a new model reserved for this SKU.

I don't really have any desire for an FRN police. I think tip-down models should be G-10 or Micarta or whatever for better "spydie drops" like the Military. I think that having a lightweight handle on the Police would make drawing more annoying and if you change it to tip-up you're only going closer and closer to the Endura.

While I think that FRN is strong stuff, I don't think it's well suited for a long and slim handle like the Police. The thickness would probably have to change for strength reasons and then it's a different feel.

I think of the FRN models as hard use/abuse knives that the avg user can beat up and not cry about. The Police has a finer tip and would seem less suited to the avg knife user's needs. I wouldn't be suprised if a lot of FRN Police models ended up having their tips broken off.

Well, just my two cents. I'd rather see the slots reserved for new designs or retooling of other designs like a compression lock Military.

Since the Endura is a sufficient model for this class, the Police, if re-introduced in FRN or whatever handle, I think should be pumped up and truly evolved upwards. I suggest a compression lock(if not too cost prohibitive) this will provide dual nested liners in the FRN. I also think this model would benefit from the Kinetic opening 'horn' from the Gunting. The handle is long enough to use in the close position, the blade is long enough to appease us 4"+ Gunting seekers and the 'horn' is appropriate for a model designated the 'Police'. Yeah, it would pretty much be a new model, but it's not. It's just a highly evolved version of one of Spyderco's oldest and respected models. IMO.

I'll take one in black FRN either plain or serrated, but with the Endura reversible tip up carry. I would love to have one I could carry.

I've got a G-10 model with the tip down, but I bought it just for the collection. I forget what the issue is regarding the marking of the knife, but I think it was part of a run that was missing some standard markings.

I don´t buy the argument about the similarity to the Endura. If that was true the Endura II would make the SS Police obsolete as well. They are simply not the same knives.

Well said, Pelle.

I think it would be very cool.

I have moved totally away from G-10 and steel, my brother and I both love the Police model. My brother owned a G-10 one, and I owned one of the Magnum Research versions. I love the pattern. But I do not care for steel for weight. The single steel liner of the G-10 version throws the feel off, add to that, threading G-10 for the clip screws, and the very real chance of stripping the threads, not good. A FRN model would be perfect.

I love FRN. And I totally trust Spyderco to make it right, come on guys. Even if they have to do some sort of stiffening through interior shape like they did with the Native.

And, a FRN Police would be another bridge that Spyderco can provide, inexpensive enough to interest the common buyer, but offering enough inherent value to keep us nuts happy.

In summary.

Police, FRN, Endura style clip, solid clip well walls, Boye notch on a lockback, lanyard, black Volcano grip. Most Excellent

personally, i dont like zytel, looks cheap imho - not that it isnt good for knife handles, i just dont like the looks .............
