I am talking about some of the deals to be had on the X. Someone has 2 SH protos upo for grabs at a price that IMO constitutes "consensual robbery". And that's not the only thing. I know of at least two incredible SHBMs and equally incredible asking prices, and they seemingly aren't even getting nibbles. Yeah, I know the economy is tough, yadda yadda yadda, but in my time here, I have never seen the likes of what is being offered FS, or the asking prices on the items in particular.

.

Alright, how much did Cobalt pay you????

:D

Nothing wrong with an entrepenurial spirit, is there??? :p

Seriously though, don't you agree? People have $$ for NNFBMs, but not for a piece of Busse history?

People ordered the NMFBM'S, so they have more of a responsibility to that than to picking up a great deal. I would have jumped on certain pieces but I know I am going to get dinged for the NMFBM's and blade west is coming up and I want a Mini Muk. I understand Busse History, no offense to anyone intended but I still cant see spending 1K on a knife I could have bought for 500 a few years ago....some people can and thats fine. but 400 something for an blade and 1K+ for one is a different story.

Yes, I agree. For that reason I had my knife withdrawn from the exchange. So I thought about it and I will modify it for myself.
It's a hard time to sell Busse's these days.:grumpy:

Some, like me, buy knives for use, and not for their historical value. ;)

The exchange seems to be flowing with INFI, though - since stuff has been increasingly available from the company store and straight from the shop, that reflects upon the secondary market as well. Doesn't bother me.

OTE...

We had talked about this indirectly back in another thread. Many people said that it seemed that a lot of guys ran out and bought everything they could get there hands on –new or old- thinking they could always sell them for more than they paid. The economy truning down just makes everyone edgy and things go on the exchange at the same time wallets tighten up.

The thing is that those SHBMs etc. etc. will never be made again and since we have a few, we know they are some of the best knives Busse ever made.

.

Trust me. If I thought I could get out of my SHBM right now for what I paid, I'd pick up the 1/300 satinized (gorgeously) and eat the $200 upgrade cost.

But I don't think I can get that - so I'm certainly not going to bother.

Or if there was a market for some other older blades I'm going to peddle. THEN I'd snap it up TODAY!

Too much "good" steel going for a steal lately to get ALL the deals myself. LOL

I agree 100%. Not that I am offering an SHBM passaround, but maybe if one got around, I think folks would realize what incredible knives they are. And that is not to take away anything from any other knife Jerry has ever made. Still, if someone--anyone here at all-- finds themselves in Tucson at some point, I am happy to let them play with my SHBM just so they know what it feels like.

As for my piece of Busse history, well, I have it. I doubt I'll ever sell it. That does not mean that I use it all the time, nor does it mean that I could not sell it for more than I bought it for. Even now, I am sure that I could do exactly that, but that is not the point. I have a GREAT piece of Busse history, and it is something I am very proud to own. Maybe someday Jerry and I will sit down over drinks and he can tell me a little more about it. In the meantime, I am happy to simply have it.

I know you too have some Busse history in your collection, as well as many others here. I guess I am just surprised to see walls of NMFBMs, but then a few rare beauties sit on the exchange. It just seems...odd.

If things weren't so tight right now I would have nailed the ergo protos already. I have been pining over these and a couple more in someone elses lair, but there are times when stuff just doesn't work out.

I can't understand why they are still around though. Those things were the bomb when they were first seen several years ago!

Ah, brings me back to the days when one bought and sold a Busse for the same price. Seems like only yesterday. :o

Now I hear grumbling when someone is forced to sell one for what they paid for it, "forced!" yea.

Busse secondary market ! Well , I am basically done buying infi because of this garbage..

Time to move on for me and enjoy the infi I am choosing to keep.. .

Jerry..... ahhh, never mind.... :foot:

I can see Russia from my house :D

How's the moose stew? :p

Yeah, I'm kind of like barrabas74. I've been here long enough that I can't buy a Busse for $1K+ knowing I could have gotten it for $600 just a couple of years ago. Heck, buying it would involve regret. One might think that the influx of INFI onto the market would cut into some of these asking prices for older pieces, but it hasn't been the case. I would really like a HOG FSH LE, but even there, I haven't seen one in a price range I was comfortable paying.

And my SHBM is not for sale! :D

The Busse market is correcting itself! SHBM's were selling for $450-$625 like two years ago!! Now if someone can't get $1400 they think the INFI sky is falling. A little perspective!

I'd love to witness an end to the ridiculous gouging that we've seen on the secondary market. I've seen knives bought last year and sellers try to dump em this year for 350+ markups. I'd much prefer NOT to reward a seller for being quicker than me or other reasonable/honest forum members. I'd also prefer not to reward them for holding a knife for a year. It just doesn't seem right.

If a knife is exceedingly rare, that's one thing. A lot of times this isn't the case.

If there's no upturn in the economy in the immediate future maybe seeing a correction in the secondary market isn't just a pipe dream.

There are risks when the intended purpose is to turn a profit. Take a look at the economic state in America. Greed seems to have had a big impact. Now everyone is lined up for a bailout. Invest wisely and expect risks every time you do so.
I've been looking at those old gems and i'd even pay a few hundred more than the original cost but i'll leave those classics for those who are in the higher tax bracket. A barrel of crude jumped $25 overnight and that directly impacts my spending.
The NMFBM is also soon to be a part of the Busse history and half the price of an SHBM.
Call me frugal but it'll chop the same wood, with a little more ease, which is why I bought one.

"No Regrets" here! ;) :o

I am not talking about gouging in the secondary market. On the contrary, I am talking about what I believe to be extremely reasonable prices on very rare knives. Sure, wouldn't we all have loved to be around when premium Busses were selling for much less? Heck, I'll take a '65 Mustang for its original price too! ;)
