Just trying to lighten things up a bit. Sorry if I offended anyone...

I didn't mean any disrespect to Stacy. Jeez. :(

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and to defend what they think is right but all this arguing has been too much.

Sorry about my aliens comment.
But.....it's true, they are all over the place in Nick's neighborhood.
Just teasing.
I will attempt to use a bit more self restraint.

Being a moderator is a tough job, and I think Stacy does a great job because he has a level head.

That being said,… I think people come to the forum for a wide variety of reasons. If it was just for clean information and facts, it would lose some of its charm and appeal to the masses.

So,… it takes some tolerance and patience from both sides. I don’t disagree with Stacy, I agree. But, I’m just throwing in a different angle on it.

I agree that there is a certain necessary entertainment value in it, but when a new maker has to sort through pages of bickering and cross-talk, it becomes antithetical to the purpose of the forum. Or maybe I'm wrong.

I for one thought the particular debate I believe sparked this was both informative, entertaining, and a bit long winded and repetitive at times. I learned quite a bit reading everyone's opinions; different people have different perspectives and that doesn't mean either is wrong. Some humor is welcome (to me), and as long as it's kept civil I am for it. Humor helps one learn (keeps things from getting stale, and losing interest), after all.

Not to push at you Stacy ( if it's ok for me to call you by your first name ) I truly respect you , your work and the tireless effort and knowledge you have brought to this forum. Expertise advice on such a wide variety of subjects. But if a major manufacturer: KA-BAR makes a whole line of knives as " zombie killers" as a custom knife maker doesn't that open up an avenue of sales to that group who would buy a mass produced knife might want a handcrafted custom? I'm not trying to be facetious. But I truly believe that if I make " zombie hunter" choppers there would be a market for it . Also that there are members on this board who could offer advice to get the right look for a project.

This is my hat I wore in the Sand Box , I bought the patch on the boardwalk in Kandahar Airfield , it wasn't custom made or anything . There is this quasi- military thing with zombies and the combat arms. I guess the easiest way to explain it as in any conflict you dehumanize the enemy: krauts, japs , gooks , etc . Thinking of the enemy as walking dead is just another method of this . Their were t-shirts, hoodies and all kinds of patches like this . I hope this explains my angle when it comes to "zombie" related stuff. Also in pop-culture zombie books and movies, tv are quite popular currently and there is a market for it . I don't know if you'll agree with me but I hope this puts it in perspective of the younger generation ( I'm 30 btw).

Talk about walking on egg shells or are we talking about the last 4 months with the ex. I'm the newbie , and I've already been in trouble. In 30 years I've never learned when to keep my mouth shut, the officers loved me when I was a Section Commander in a Rifle Company but I was really good at my job so I got a lot of lee way , not enough at times though. " Listen sir, I've been doing this a lot longer then you and you're all f@*ked up , this is how we should do it " very popular :) . I'm not in that position here because I'm like the brand new Private straight out of boot camp when it comes to knifemaking. I had a mentor who had been making knives for 20+ years, had all the machines
( lathes, presses , mills )but after he sold me a crap grinder and then a messed up wheel getting $1100 out of me and I've spent an additional $900 to get in running again I'm not to keen on visiting him now. Off topic sorry, whats the rubber ducky story I understand the distaste for " zombie stuff " from people who aren't into that thing and not being abusive to posters ( Newbie guilty of that ) and posting to much without searching enough ( learning to use the advanced search helps but the search function still isn't the greatest IMO) but rubber ducky is over my head. I bought a really nice heavy duty work bench with drawers cause it was half price and really nice today, just looking at the manual now : Bolt A x 100 Nut B x100 and that's just the frame then there is the drawers  I think the Manhattan Project took less problem solving .

I don't understand ! It is the Z month after all .If not how do you explain the goat that was on the highway here today ?? Deer , bear , turkeys etc ,that's one thing . In Watertown NY it's normal but here it's a sign !! I wonder if Sam has seen it ??

Maybe someone has a goat farm and one escaped , on a side note this thread is turning into exactly what the original poster/ super mod/ blade smith extraordinaire was trying to discourage . If I wanted to be mean I could post links to Tai's site in all the threads of first knife made with just files .

Is it Solipsistic in here, or is it just me?

Well I am always learning, I even learned a new word today... "Solipisistic" I have no idea what it means.

Bladeforums (Members) is where I learned most of what I know about knife making, I don't want to see it "Simplified". I will not feed the trolls in the future!

This thread was posted about the needless filler and junk on the forum. Personally I feel that chatter about killing Zombies is just such needless junk.
I am fully aware that there is a great amount of Zombie mania out there. I also know that there are Priests who molest young alter boys, men who beat their wives, and soldiers in Africa who rape women with impunity..... Just because these things openly exist doesn't mean that anyone should emulate these things, or that Ship Talk is the place to discuss them.

If you want to make a Zombie Slayer knife, and post a photo thread or a WIP about it, that is perfectly OK. In that thread you can discuss all the silly talk about Zombies that you wish...because it is topic related. I will defer posting there, because I think it is dumb...but that is my opinion, and not binding on anyone.
However, inserting chatter about the best way to kill a Zombie and how fast they walk/run in a thread about knife styles and features is just wasted bandwidth.
BTW, You do know that Zombies are not real, don't you ( just kidding).

I will point out that many of the best makers around used to be on this forum. They left because of the silly conduct and bad behavior of many who are still here. Some still monitor it, and occasionally make a post, but for the most they leave it alone. One said to me that he walked away when every kid on his second knife was an expert, and would post advise on how to HT Cowry X when he was using a one brick forge to do the HT on his lawn mower blade knives. I took that his use of "kid" was not limited to age. He said he had things to do that mattered, and wasting time on BF wasn't one of them. At times I feel the same way, but I care about Shop Talk, and want it to be the place where a new maker can come and find real info. I don't always agree with every poster, and that is OK,too. I am not the hall monitor or QC inspector here, just the moderator. If you chaps keep it clean, family friendly, and on topic, I will rarely make a comment.
