I want to give my two sense. I like the Battle Mistress line. In my opinion the Zero Tolerance Battle Mistress (the only one I ever owned) was probably the BEST jungle/camp knife I have ever held in my hands. The other Battle Mistresses are probably as good or even better, depending on the different peculiar tastes of different users. I have been anxiously waiting for Busse to start producing the new Fusion Battle Mistress but was saddenned when I saw that the battle grade (1/4 inch thick) version will come with those grooves on the blade. I just don't like the grooves and it seems that NOBODY else likes them either. Too bad. If anyone wants a classic ungrooved knife they'll just have to put up the extra bucks and buy the limited edition version which will probably come only in the 5/16 inch version which would probably be too heavy to serve it's real purpose which is for an expedition/outdoor/battle use. I might still buy the LE version but it would probably be only used around the ranch, not on any expeditions or long hikes where the extra weight would be prohibitive. Well, after all my griping I still hope that an ungrooved version will come out in 1/4 or 3/16ths of inch. Anybody think my dream will come true. Best regards from the rainforest. Alex.

I like the corrugated bevels. It reduces the weight, although not by much, and reduces friction during cutting.
It looks good for me.
Care to explain why you don't like them?

I don't like them either Alex. I was able to see and handle the new FBM at the Blade show back in June and I feel like the grooves really detract from the appearance of the knife.

Of course, if you are buying a user and not a safe queen then it really would not matter unless the grooves have a negative impact on performance. I have never heard anything expressed to indicate that they do.

I didn't like them in the pictures at first at all. Then I got the Hell Razor anyway. The HR has turned out to be my favorite knife ever and the corrugated bevels have really grown on me!

I have to admit I didn't like the bevels either and accidently started a new thread when I thought I was replying here... lol I totally changed my mind when I recieved my first Hell Razor a few hours ago. Look at it like this also... Try it.. if you don't like it you will have no problems unloading it here on the secondary market and getting 100% of your cash back if not more :D

It's cause the grooves remind us of spare tires.
As if a skinny weasel like yourself ever had to worry about that!

Reiterating a point I made in another thread: The only reason I don't care for the bevels is that they appear to preclude a satin (or DCBB) finish. Since that is the one I prefer, I avoid those knives that come with bevels.

I have not really made up my mind either way on the grooves yet but I look at it like this. Even if you don't like them, a Busse with grooves is a lot like that endurance model sitting at the bar just before closing and your still alone. It may not have been your first choice, but it sure can get the job done, and if she picks up the bar tab well.. :D

Why don't I like 'em? Cause I like a satin finish. Cause they probably hold dirt and food and aren't as hygienic. Cause I'm old fashioned. Maybe I can learn to love 'em. I just want a good old knife, not a ribbed thingumajig, that doesn't exist anywhere else. Given a choice I'll go with an LE - satin finish and a bit heavy. Different strokes for different folks.

Well, From what I have read about the differences between the HOGFSH and the standard, the weight difference wasn't that much. so I wouldn't worry about it personally. I have not personally witnessed the grooves, but I have read that they are not as deep in person, and stuff does not get stuck in them.
I do love satin finishes as well, which is why I am getting an LE.

IMHO Busse Combat has always been about performance and innovation first. Some of the performance modifications *might* not be aestethically pleasing but they have a purpose. Check the blade geometries and shapes, Busse knives are not radical in design just because there are trends but because they are based on time honored models (basic clip and drop points etc... ignoring the variants). I'm a performance oriented guy, if the CBT help out in some way they look good. The same thing happened to some of the other innovations (some of them survived other did not): the asymetrical edge :thumbdn: , the crinckle finish  , A2>INFI :D , Talon Hole:thumbup: , Straight>Ergo>Fussion transition  etc...

Let's see if the CBT is well-received or rejected because of performance instead of rejection because of looks or appearance.

You should be able to order one without the bevels. I don't see why not.
After all, it's an extra step that costs them more time and $$$$ to do.
Does anyone know for certain?

Actually wouldn't it be more expensive since they probably have the blade pattern and bevels programmed out on the CNC machine and done in batches. The HOGFBM might have to have more hand grinding done to it. Can anyone provide more info? Garth? Where's the Janitor?

As far as I know, some kitchen knives use similar concept called scallops. They reduces friction and actually PREVENT stuff gets stuck on the blade when cutting. Because of the hollow space, there is no vaccum to hold the sliced stuff on the blade.
Does it make sense? To me, it does.
