G10 Griptilian - when?

I had a thread a while back saying something similar that I wished they would add G10,micarta,and any other form of custom scale and upgraded steels we want (M4,M390,CPM35, and give me carbon, I have oil!!!) oh yeah also custom barrel spacers and have this added to the "CUSTOMIZE A GRIPTILIAN" section on Benchmades website and let us pay for the knives we really want. A quick comparison the 2 "CUSTOMIZE A GRIPTILIAN" knives I have cost around $130-$135 each and the Camp Perry BM was $150 from BM website and I believe 25% went to NRA off the top, next the REI BM with the 20% off code was about $135 so point is G10 and barrel spacers is the same price as the "CUSTOMIZE A GRIPTILIAN" so please Benchmade open up the menu with more options and provide a service to your fans and show why your a leader in AMERICAN knife making.

^^^ THIS!

It is clear there is a demand for the higher end versions, so why not make it readily available for those willing to pay the extra?

I can only dream of a satin finish M390 / G-10 scales Griptilian, this could easily be the greatest pocket knife of all time!

G10 or carbon fiber Ritter or 555 for me, oh yeah strap the M390 to it as well. Putting those options in the Customize a Griptilian program would be outstanding, excluding the Ritter profile. So for the moment I will have to keep supporting the pimps and am happy to do it, but a little variety would be nice.

There's a premium associated with the customize option. If a S30V grip with a plastic handle costs $160 when you customize, a G10 grip with a super steel blade is going to be well over $200 regardless of what a limited production version would cost. I agree with you though, they should offer the option, price it however they want, and see how the market responds. I'm not sure how many people are ready to drop $250 on a grip though.

I've mentioned before that I think that BM could leave their plastic handled Grips in the $60-$70 range like they used to be with the discounts, and offer the same steel and blade shapes with G10 handles at the prices they're charging now for Grips ($85-$95). I think those prices would be fair and would sell like hot cakes and help diminish the cheapish feel of the full sized Grip. Let them charge whatever for the better knives like the 940 and 810 and 710, but a Grip is what it is. It's not a $100 knife in its current form. Ritters are a different story.

Honestly, I despise the feel of the FRN Griptilians. It makes it feel cheap. Not $70-$100 cheap, but $10-$20 cheap. It's a shame, and if I could get a tan G10 gripped Griptilian, I'd be one of the first in line.

The G10 and M4 Shot Show LE from a year ago was only $150

I was talking about a theoretical super steel knife through the customize option, which clearly carries a premium above regular production cost. An S30V blade (+$20) goes for $160 with the plastic handle when you customize it. I don't think there's any way in the world that an M390/S90V grip with a G10 handle would be any less than $200 through that program.

Ah, gotcha. My mistake :)

Frankly, I can't get over the partial liners on the full size grips. If only they did nested skeleton ized liners like on the mini, I'd be more likely to buy one :/ as it is I'm thinking about picking up the recent s30v/g10 grip to see whether the liners will bother me as much as I think they will.

I don't think it will bother you. I have one and it is rock solid!

I'd worry about the 3/4 steel liners if I were doing serious hard use activities with mine. However, a full size Grip isn't the appropriate tool for those sorts of jobs. As far as flex is concerned, I don't detect any on my G10 Grip.

The G10 Grip feels pretty tank-ish. There's absolutely no flex to the handle at all, probably because the Grip's handle runs so thick

I read a post a few years back from Mick Strider at USN saying that the G10 scale on the SnG was stiffer than the Ti side. With the thickness of the scales on a G10 Grip, I don't think you need liners for stability at all. They're there because the Axis lock needs them.
