G10 is the best material for knife scales.

Depends what you want, it's certainly not in most cases "pretty" or particularly tactile but for example the tests I've seen of the Cold Steel recon series (G10 I think) when done well it's very strong.

Reseprine C. I have five knives with these handles, only one with G10. That should settle it.

G10 is good but I prefer micarta over G10, micarta can be finished in several different ways and textures from smooth polished to rough bead blasted and in several different materials, linen, canvas, burlap, denim, paper and other stuff. I have a Buck 104 compadre with burlap micarta handle that is blasted finish that gives an excellent grip. Also it feels warmer than G10 in the cold winter temps.

I also like dymalux laminate wood if it has a texture or contoured finish for a good grip.

I like the peel-ply textured stuff, like on the PM2, a 0350, or a 0357. More grip than most CF or titanium….
Textured ti is where it’s at tho….😍

I like G10, but in terms of synthetics I prefer micarta.

I like all sorts of handle materials though. I love hardwoods a lot when it comes to handles.

My favorite knives have: hickory, wenge, maple burl, ebony, bubinga, various canvas and linen micartas, G10, black phenolic, unnamed plastic (Moras), steel (leatherman).

So in conclusion I pretty much will take any handle material if the design is done right.

And for clarity’s sake, I am talking almost exclusively about fixed blade handles (apart from my Leatherman and Buck 110) as fixed blades are what I carry and use 99.99% of the time.

Is it better than a Poke in the eye???

-maybe.

I've got a lot of different handle scale materials in my knife collection: various wood, various metals, various rubberesque, and various plastics (stabilized wood, Micarta, carbon fiber, varied polymers, Grivory, FRN, and G10), and even one cork handle. Just like Micarta there are all sorts of different applications and quality of G10. 35 of my knives have G10 handles, but most of my knives have wooden or Micarta scales. My G10 is layered, sculpted, or at least has some decent texturing to it. Some of my most expensive knives (like my Hinderer XM-18 Skinny) have G10 handle scales.

It's already been established that the AD-10 is the best knife, and it uses G-10, so there you go!

🤣
The G10 on that knife feels like it could be Micarta.

I won't not buy a knife that I like everything else about if it has g10 handles... But that's about as far as I go.

And the replacement scales on my vic rambler, but the only reason I got g10 for that was because I couldn't find anything else at the time.

Pro move!

Get them all fired up n sit back to watch the fireworks.
I'll grab the snacks! 🍟🍿🥜😁

G10 is definitely not my favorite handle material and there simply is no "best" handle material, but as long as the price is right, G10 is great IMO! But I personally don't really wanna work with it.

There's no common handle material that I have a problem with. I like them all even if I do have preferences. I even appreciate lowly FRN for its light weight, strength and durability. Different handle materials are part of the fun, just like different steels or blade shapes. G10 is great. It's strong, light, durable, and resistant to chemicals. It has a nice dense solid feel and can be very attractive when sculpted and layered.

Spyderco does G10 right. Just the right amount of texture.

Discuss.
I like Spyderco's peel ply texture. Some find it too grippy. I don't. I do wish Spyderco would do more contouring with their G10. The Shaman was a step toward that but everything else is flat slabs of G10.
