Gathering - Saturday, January 14th

So what is everyone bringing other than food? We going to have any trading going on? I havent been to a JK gathering so I am just curious.

Also, if someone wants to bring a 20ga propane tank I have a Big Buddy Heater. You know... for the girl types :)

Always up for trading!

Make sure you write down my cell phone number! If it gets a lot of snow, they sometimes close McKinley, but there is another park about 1 1/2 miles back towards I55, so we can always go there if the park is closed.

They are calling for 4"-8" of snow by tomorrow night. If we get it, the park will more than likely be closed. There is another park within a couple of miles, but the shelter there does not have a fireplace. Should we gamble on the park being open, choose another spot, (don`t know exactly where), or call it off? Let`s hear your thoughts!

Kirill and I are still game - we will bring some firewood. If that park is closed we can to the other location - just post where it is -

Can we have a fire at the secondary location?

I believe there are firepits at the other location, not sure. I`m hoping we can still do this someplace. The other park is easy to find, it`s on the road right next to the Subway (Canal St), you pass going down Rte 6 towards McKinley. It`s where the old lock keeper house is that I`ve posted photos of.

If you are not going to be coming, please post here, no later that 5:30 am on Saturday, so we are not waiting for you to show up.

Closing of McKinley Park is unacceptable. Don't they know this is the freakin' Gathering?

Keep us updated on the local weather John. I still plan on coming unless there is a major road closing.

As much as I want to go to the gathering I am not going to go. I drive an hour to work everyday and today it took me one hour and forty minutes just because someone had an accident. It gets frustrating for me to sit in traffic so long. I will go to a gathering when there is less chance of snow. Thanks for inviting me and my wife, John. I hope everyone has a great time.

Maybe next time.

It's been snowing here all day, and we probably do have a few inches on the ground! They are telling us that this is going to be over by the time midnight, give or take comes around, so I'm not to worried about it being a problem! I really believe that by the time Saturday morning comes around, we won't have to worry too much about the snow! Most of it should be cleaned up by then even if it doesn't melt away, and I figure the roads to get from Wisconsin should be cleared and passable! I don't know how well they take care of removing snow on the roads inside those parks down ther but, even if McKinley is open, watch your self going down that hill to the bottom parking lot! It is somewhat of a decent, even if the cop isn't there! It would be really easy to slide off that road, if you hit a slick spot and you are going too fast! Remember also, if it is open, to watch your speed, so if the cop is lurking in that first parking lot, you don't get stopped, like Sean and Andy did! I don't think he would be nearly as friendly with you guys if he gets you again! I'm planning to see somebody on Saturday morning, and we will find some place to go if McKinley is closed, even if we have to go back to John's shop! I basically have all my stuff put together and staged by the back door!

All of you, please take care and stay safe out there! Remember, it isn't you that you have to worry about, it's those other idiots around you, that have forgotten or never knew how to drive in the snow to start with!

Saturday!

Great, I`ll see you (and have your new knife with me) on Saturday! That is correct, my shop is the final option. If it comes to that, I have a little firepit to cook on so we can feel like we are "roughing it in the wild!"

That sounds great John - I am good anywhere.

We got 5" of snow down here, but it was not a big problem, a little extra drive time yesterday but today the roads are plowed and back to normal for January.

Kirill and I will be up - I am stopping at his house at 6:45 am (earliest I could get him to agree to lol ) and we will throw some firewood in the truck and head up.

I'll call you and let you know the ETA when we are on the road.

Looking forward to the food, folks and FIRE lol

Got about 5" here too. I drove the Boss to work this morning, but actually when we got off our street the roads were pretty clear.

outdoorsfan, mqqn, jds1, frontiertom, and Mr Sogetsu, are all confirmed for tomorrow. I sent each of you directions to our backup location, Aux Sable. Now I`m going out to buy an Elmer Fudd hat with earflaps!

You don't already have one? I got a rabbit lined bomber and it is toasty(most of the time too toasty f doing heavy work). :D

That`s the kind I am getting! Tomorrow I`ll be bringing the Early Style Hunter for frontiertom, the hawk sheath for outdoorsfan, the passaround knife, a Buck for mqqn, and the newest model for mqqn, the JK sKraper!

Excellent. I could have used the sKraper last night.

Almost every knife you make could have the K in it - hawK, hiKer, scanducKie, Riverwoods Kompanion, Mack's Kutlass - I always think of a K in the name to align with that K on the blade (or handle)

I think EVERYONE will want a sKraper!
best -
