(GAW Ended. <3) The Sparkly Knife Scholarship Giveaway: Inspiring others to love knives. ♡

I like the way I see this GAW it is more a member her male or female speaking of a female they know who might could be swayed to see the beauty of knives beyond just a utility/tool and gain appreciation for them.

To me, a great knife is truly a work of art.

I have two sisters and a mom who really don't understand; they think of knives only in the way they function (which is also very important and a very cool part of knives that I am constantly learning more about daily), but they also see them as dangerous things that are in no way beautiful or neat and interesting, or any way that we see them and appreciate them here on BF. <3

I would be thrilled to change that view point in anyone that might truly learn to love and appreciate these awesome, amazing things that I have learned to love too.

I once was like my sisters and my mom; I will say it. But after learning just a tad about the Buck 110, I was hooked. It only took a little nudge in the right direction! ^_^ What better way to do that for someone else than have a little giveaway? :)

First Post ever, been lurking on the forums a while but reading this post made me want to sign up to throw in my 2 cents.

I really love this idea for a GAW, and I think you made a great choice on the knife you are picking. I definitely feel that the little SD Classic is a great one, I thought it so much I bought one for my Fiance a little while ago, sadly she has lost it recently so shes due for another. But before it was lost she really did use it quite a bit!!

Thanks for sparking this thread up

Every attempt I've made to turn someone into a knife edc-er has failed, that wasn't already. Both men and women. I'm glad that some of them will at least keep them in their vehicles. Some knives I've gotten for people have never been used, once, that's kinda depressing. Guess not everyone has a use for a kukri.;) Tho he walks through thick woods/brush plenty so not sure why doesn't use it, maybe doesn't want to look like a knife wielding maniac just escaped the institution. Idk.

Very nice thing your doing here, sure somebody will take advantage of this genorous opportunity. I would if could think of somebody that would appreciate it that didn't have something already.

Hey all! ^_^

I sort of changed this GAW so that it is inclusive to all genders. <3 I really like this better, as I didn't feel that it JUST being for women and girls was right. Let me know if someone you know might be inspired by this knife!! :] I'm saying "someone you know" only because we all are ALREADY here. Which means we already are at least a little into knives. <3 :)

Wow, O Okan-7 , I am so honored that this was your first post ever!! ^_^ Thank you for writing in. <3 Do you think your Fiancée might be inspired to get into this hobby if she were to have a replacement for her other knife? It sounds like she already had one though. <3 What are your thoughts?

And to your Idea, I don't think it's a bad idea at all. It might be a little more difficult to organize, but how about looking for a local girl scout troop and inquire if one of the girls there did anything that warrants a particular reward? I feel like most guys here who have a female friend/family member/etcpp have already supplied them themselves. Although maybe somebodies daughter, wife/gf have an upcoming birthday or other celebration?

Not me. I still haven't gifted my sister a knife. Also all knives I gifted to previous ex girlfirend's that I'm no longer together with.

I would like to enter for my friend I know a couple years. Not significant other yet. Her favorite color is purple and I've actually been in the market looking for a purple knife to gift her. This would be the perfect gift for her.

Hey needler420 needler420 ! Well, no one has even really asked to enter yet except for you! :] Before I just hand it on over, I would really like to know if you think this would perhaps inspire her to love knives as we do? <3

Also, if you would like to DM me, please feel free. ^_^

I was just hoping to enter it as a contest. Didn't mean to directly ask for it lol.

I think she would EDC a sak like that. She gets intimidated by my bigger knives autos, balisongs. She is a gun owner as well. Mainly someone I been talking to for awhile hoping to be dating one day. I think it would make her like knives more but not sure she would become a active member of the community or anything like that. But you never know, if we get together I am the knife nut lol.

That is really awesome and romantic Needler!! Go ask that girl out!! ^_^

needler420 needler420 ,

I will send you this knife to give your "friend". <3 :) She sounds like the kind of girl who just might fall in love with this hobby!! ^_^ And hopefully you too!! :] (Sorry to be forward, now I'm just REALLY hoping you guys get together!! ^_^)

This was a touching story. It sounds like you've known her for a long time and really care about her. <3

I am going to send you the knife, with a little card explaining my hopes for her, in a very casual, no-pressure sort of way. <3 I really hope this will make her smile, if nothing else. <3

I'll DM you. <3

Hey all! ^_^

I seem to have found a really great person to send the knife to. <3 Thank you all for writing in and I hope I can afford to do more things like this in the future!! :)

Happy Tuesday you guys! I hope you are having a great one. <3

PS: This knife IS going to be Orchid colored, as I have already ordered it. <3 I hope guys will think this is a cool color too!! ^_^ I think it's a bad ass color no matter what, but that's just me. :]

My wife has the orchid Cadet, i bought her in December, and she absolutely loves it. It is a great color. I'd totally carry one, unashamedly.

But please keep in mind knives aren't gender specific. Though we occasionally get the "what knife for my wife/daughter/girlfriend thread". Most of us just let the women/ladies in our lives take whichever knife we own that they like.

Yeah... this too. every so often my wife will decide which one of my knives she decides is going to become hers. My BM north fork nearly became hers two weeks ago when I going to put it up on the exchange.

Her words, "Don't you dare sell that one. You keep it, so i can steal it from you later, or I'll steal it from you now. Those are your choices."

I love her. There is nobody I'd rather have steal my knives. She also "acquired" a really nice blurple G10 Manix 2 in S110v about 6 months ago. I totally love sharing the hobby.

Turning somebody (typically a female) into a knife user outside the kitchen is difficult. The little orchid alox classic is kind of cute. They have to decide for themselves that carrying a knife fits into their lives and would be useful for them to have handy. This is a little difficult for me to understand as I find a folding knife useful just about every single day for something. I have given my wife an alox Classic and a small Leatherman and she likes both. Don't know if she ever uses them....

I relate this to a off the wall example.... a number of years ago a coworker felt that I would like to deal with Amway products and perhaps make some extra money. I invited them to my house and we discussed it at length (ie, He gave me the Amway spiel.). Ultimately after they left I considered it from both a practical and realty point of view in my life. I just could not see trying to convince people to join Amway or buy their products when I can't imagine buying and using their products daily myself. To make it work, you almost have to buy almost everything that they carry and you use. This is just not for me.

Knives may be a little like that in that we all have a self image and if the knife doesn't fit that image, it is really hard to be convinced to change.
